Finding the right counsellor is very important. Just as it is a good idea to be selective and cautious about those people close to you with whom you share your life, counselling is a special type of relationship that needs careful consideration. It is usually possible to gauge very quickly whether you are going to ‘click’ with someone enough that you feel a ‘relatable’ connection between the two of you. Not every counsellor’s style will be your ‘cup of tea’!
With this is mind, I offer a free 30 minute initial session for you to meet me and decide if we would work well together. I think it can be helpful to meet with a few counsellors before making your decision.
I feel that having a great deal of life experience and overcoming much adversity myself gives me a down-to-earth, relatable edge that my clients often appreciate. My aim is to provide a space for you to develop a relationship with me that is very 'real', a space where you feel comfortable and safe enough to share the things that have been bothering you.
Here are some of the things that clients have said about working with me:
“I would recommend Samantha as
a counsellor as she is very empathetic.I find her questioning very clever, challenging and thought provoking. I feel like she has the patience and knowledge to see me through what I think of as a really difficult time in my life. She doesn't just 'repeat what you said' in a different way like other counsellors I have experienced. She is lovely and funny and kind”
"I can't explain the enormity or the impact you have had on me and my
life. What felt like a confused tangle of pain, frustration, anger and sadness now feels like distinct threads of emotion, each with a clear root. I'm definitely able to recognise the truth of what I
am feeling and I'm a lot less confused. I am sure that I will keep my 'solidity' and be able to enjoy all the huge blessings I have in my life and not let the past steal that. Thank you for showing
me that it is within my control"
“Sam is amazing - never judges, clearly listens and has some remarkable insights into my situation. When she summarised my situation after a particular session I was really touched that she would put so much effort to trying to help me."
I work with depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety & panic, relationship problems, mood & personality disorders, self-harming, eating disorders (including overeating/obesity), childhood abuse, domestic violence, stress, PTSD, victims of crime, loss & bereavement, redundancy & work related stress, issues with anger (including repressed anger) and self-destructive/sabotaging behaviours (including substance misuse). If anything is affecting your emotional wellbeing and preventing you from living the life you would like - counselling can help. Please have a look at my website for further information.
Counselling involves much more than just talking over your problems with someone else. You do not need to try and battle through alone. Even if you have doubts that counselling can help you, surely you have nothing to lose by trying?

I use the Rewind Technique to treat Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD is a highly treatable condition.
The Rewind Technique (RT) has gained international recognition as an indispensable adjunct for the treatment of PTSD.
RT is easily learned and only takes a few minutes to treat a traumatic event. It is a form of 'imaginal exposure therapy'. The results are highly effective and enduring, with a success rate of 85-95% after only one treatment.
One great thing about RT is that you do not have to disclose any details about your trauma to me, your therapist. In fact you do not need to talk about it at all.
Going over the event can be extremely difficult, upsetting, maybe even embarrassing or shaming. It can be re-traumatizing to talk about what happened to you.
For those working in the military or emergency services - RT is great because there is no need to disclose sensitive or confidential information.
