About me
Hello my name is Sam, I am a qualified High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I pride myself on my interpersonal skills, in every new encounter with a client I do my best to put you at ease and offer a safe space to share anything you feel is causing you distress. I understand that approaching therapy is a difficult step and then sharing personal information can be anxiety provoking. There will be no pressure to share anything you do not want to, I understand shame can be an emotion that prevents us from wanting to open up and we will gently work through this if that is what you want.
My approach to the therapeutic process is to help you become more aware off your emotions. We will work together collaboratively, understanding your psychological symptoms, exploring childhood and your significant life events to give you insight into why you feel the way you do currently.
I will provide a free 30-60 minute assessment of your symptoms and suitability for CBT therapy. This is not a diagnostic assessment meaning that I will not provide you with a diagnosis, this is a symptoms based assessment. I will understand your symptoms and how they affect you.
At the end of this session I will share with you whether I feel you are suitable for CBT therapy. If you feel that you would like to proceed with therapy, we will then commence with therapy and in the first session I will share how many sessions roughly we will work towards, this could end sooner if you are progressing quickly.
Research has indicated that the relationship between therapist and client is the most influential factor that relates to positive outcomes/change. This is why I provide a free assessment, in order for you to see if you connect with me as a therapist and feel safe. I will review you at each session to determine if the therapy is giving you what you need.
