About me

Difficult feelings such as those of distress, anxiety or depression are often symptoms of a story that hasn't been fully understood or properly heard. My aim, in our sessions together, would be for us to begin to explore this story in a collaborative way - opening up space and offering a supportive, confidential environment. My peaceful, comfortable practice is in central Brighton, but I also work over Skype if you are further afield.

What happens in our first session?

Our first meeting would be an opportunity for you to get a feeling for the way in which we might work together - with no pressure from me to look further ahead than this first 50-minute session.

During our initial meeting, it may be helpful for us to discuss any hopes or expectations that you might have for therapy and we might begin to identify the ways in which therapy could be useful for you.

If you subsequently decide you’d like to begin working with me then I am very happy to work with you in a time-limited way - a specific number of sessions or a number of months. It may also be appropriate for us to begin working together without setting this time limit - returning to this discussion once our work together has begun.

Getting in touch with me

Please email or call if you have any further questions or would like to book an initial consultation. I can be reached on 01273 602137 - if I’m unable to answer immediately I’ll return your call as soon as I can (by all means leave a message on the answerphone to me know if there’s a convenient time to catch you).

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
