About me

I believe that counselling should provide a warm, understanding and empathic experience that creates a trusting environment where you can explore any areas of your life that may be causing anxiety, depression, distress or other difficulties.

I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client is crucial and therefore I place great importance on creating a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment. I endeavour to offer a confidential setting and a regular time and space where you can explore your feelings safely.

My role is not to give advice but to help you understand your feelings and behaviour better.

Training, qualifications & experience

My personal approach is warm and encouraging. I am an empathic, caring counsellor who works with people who have a variety of issues and dilemmas. My initial focus is to develop a non judgemental and trusting relationship which will create an atmosphere where the client will feel comfortable which will encourage them to explore the issues that they currently face.

I use short term or open ended therapy tailored to the client’s needs and work from a Relational Integrative approach, this means I combine Psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the Humanistic approach.

I have a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling from the University of Wales,045973_logo_(2).jpg Newport and am an Accredited Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I abide by the BACP code of ethics, am professionally supervised and have professional indemnity insurance.

In the past I have worked in a variety of Young People and Adult settings and organisations including:

  • An adult counselling service in Cardiff, South Wales
  • A variety of primary and secondary educational settings, where I worked with young people who were experiencing difficulties at school, home and in their general life
  • I have experience of adolescent and adult counselling at the Royal National College for the Blind
  • I currently manage and counsel a young people’s drug and alcohol counselling service in West London

Relationship and Couples Counselling

Relationship and Couples counselling is a form of therapy that looks to improve communication and resolve issues within an intimate relationship. Couples counselling is a term applied to talking therapy for two people within a relationship.

Working with the relationship between two people can support both sides of the partnership in many ways. What we become in a relationship is sometimes far from what we are as individuals.

Whether you’re in a new relationship, in a long-term relationship, in a complex family relationship or currently separating/have separated, relationship and couple counselling could be the place for you.

You may need help with large relationship threatening problems or help with issues that just make things a little less than perfect. It doesn't matter if you're married, living together, separated or just starting a relationship together counselling can support and benefit you in all of the stages.

Lots of people have an idea of what relationship counselling is and think that you only need counselling when things get really bad. But no matter what situation you face in your relationship, even if things are currently going perfectly, engaging in relationship and couples counselling can assist and progress you.

Counselling Young People

I have many years experience of counselling young people. I have worked in a Primary School setting in the West Midlands and have also worked with Young people aged 4 – 16 in South Wales when I was employed by University of Wales, Newport. This created the opportunity for me to see clients in a school environment meeting with them on a weekly basis.

I have worked with students aged 16 – 21, at the Royal National College for the Blind. This employment has allowed me to discover some of the difficulties experienced by those with a visual impairment and has developed my understanding of the need for versatility in the therapeutic approach when working with clients who have a disability.

I currently work with young people aged 13 – 21 who are experiencing, or are affected by someone with a substance misuse issue. This allows me to meet with young people on a weekly basis to discuss their issues with a substance, or to discuss experiences where a parent or sibling has had or has a drug or alcohol problem

An initial consultation is an opportunity for us to meet and decide if you feel we can work together, this session lasts 25-35 minutes and costs £20. Individual counselling full sessions last 50 minutes and costs £45. Relationship and couples counselling full sessions last 50 minutes and costs £55.

My therapeutic rooms are situated in discreet locations in Thame and Chinnor, South Oxfordshire where there is free ample parking outside. The therapy rooms are fully accessible. Thame and Chinnor are a short distance from Princes Risborough, High Wycombe and Oxford.

I also have therapeutic rooms in High Wycombe and Oxford that may be more convenient for you.

I am able to offer daytime and evening appointments (Monday – Friday).

I am also able to consider home visits and sessions, in particular when working with young people or clients with disabilities, as I am aware that sometimes they can feel more comfortable having sessions in their home environment.

I am passionate about supporting those in training and therefore offer reduced fees for all counselling students.
