About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor with 19 years experience working in different settings including surgeries, alcohol addiction and work placed counselling.
I am a conscientious and hard working counsellor with  a clear idea of how I work best focusing on my clients stated needs and wants  ;providing a safe space for them to explore the issues they are presenting with.I believe that if you think; you can change.Hence I concentrate on facilitating clients in accessing their thinking skills. The majority of my work has been in Occupational Health departments working short term to help clients remain in work or return to work after illness. I have at the same time developed a private practice seeing people longer term.
I enjoy the experience of building a good working  relationship with my clients to help them achieve the aims  they present with. .That for me means being respectful and open with my clients providing a setting that they can relax in.
I am comfortable working with individuals from all backgrounds and have experience working with trauma, abuse, addiction, depression and anxiety, work related stress and disciplinary matters.
.
I offer a  comfortable discreet room in the centre of York with plenty of nearby parking.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

I believe the counselling process is a joint venture.I enjoy working with someone to help them fulfil their hopes when life has become difficult. People are resourceful and resilient and I see my job as facilitating my clients in accessing their resources again and using them on their own behalf. It is I think the best job in the world.
