About me

Hello, my name is Ryan...

If you are reading this, then there is every chance that you’re seeking counselling for yourself or someone close to you. Maybe you want to change your life and you're looking for someone to help you do that.

Throughout our lives, many of us can experience things like anxiety, depression, stress, loneliness, addiction, terminal illness, bereavement and loss or issues relating to sexuality.  You are not alone.  Counselling and Psychotherapy can help you manage and overcome many of these issues.

Maybe you've lost someone close to you, a friend or family member, and need someone to talk to.  Perhaps you're addicted to alcohol, drugs or gambling and need some space to consider your options, as well as learning alternative ways to manage these cravings in the future.  Or, perhaps you're coming to terms with your sexuality, and want to be able to explore this in a space free from judgement.  Or, possibly its depression and anxiety that’s affecting your daily life and it's getting you down...

Regardless of your age, gender, sexual identity or background, you are always welcome at one of my clinics.

You may be asking what makes me different from a lot of other therapists?  I'm an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, meaning I'm trained and experienced in several therapeutic approaches.  I recognise that you are unique, and an individual, and that’s exactly how I aim for our sessions to be - tailored to your individual needs.

You can always expect a quiet, comfortable, safe and relaxed space where your well-being is of the utmost importance. We can begin by developing and nurturing a therapeutic relationship built from trust and respect. You decide where we begin and what we discuss, so you are always in control.

Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, be assured there is help available. I'll listen and support you, and we can look at alternative coping strategies or practical solutions, if you wish. And whilst there is no magic fix to our problems, the combination of the right counsellor, with the right therapy, and your willingness to change, puts you on the correct path for positive change. And you’ve already taken the most important step by seeking help today...

Training, qualifications & experience

For years I have worked with male and female clients, including adolescents, young adults and couples in a wide range of settings, including: community mental health charities, local cancer charities, private rehab centres and local children's services. I also work alongside Judith Sullivan and Associates in Leicestershire and Clarity Well-Being Clinic, North Warwickshire. Every one of these experiences has shaped me into the therapist I am today. In addition, my personal experiences have deeply impacted the insight I am able to bring to my work and my clients.

As a result, I understand what it feels like to have to overcome really difficult times. I know what it feels like to have to manage difficult relationships, deal with loss, navigate major life transitions and cope with the overwhelming sensation of day to day stress. And I can relate to the pain and frustration that comes with addiction, loss and sexuality or identity issues. It is hard to do these things alone.

What can I expect?

You can always expect a quiet, comfortable, safe and relaxed environment here with cozy lighting and comfy chairs and sofas. You can also expect a cup of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Everything you need to feel relaxed.

If this is your first time seeking therapy and are worried about what to expect, let me reassure you - this is a safe, conformable, confidential space that is far from clinical, and more about you feeling heard and accepted for who you are. I'm not a therapist that sits behind a clipboard. I'm often told that I'm easy to talk to.

Further information

What other clients have had to say:

"Ryan, has clearly experienced suffering in his own life which has given him a depth of understanding & compassion way beyond his years. He is so supportive & non-judgemental & his soft Irish accent is soothing & calming. He provides a safe place for you to look inside yourself & draw out the parts of you that need to be healed. I found myself admitting issues I had to Ryan that I hadn’t even admitted to myself. With Ryan’s help I have found a peace & balance that I have never known before. If you’re looking for a counsellor with a big heart who genuinely cares about his clients you need look no further. Thanks for everything Ryan, you really have helped me to change my life for the better."

"Ryan was absolutely fantastic. Can't speak highly enough of him. He helped me through what was a tough time and always knew what to say and how to help. Very conscientious and inviting."

"The sessions that I have had over 8 months have been so valuable to me and Ryan has really helped me to tackle my anxiety with work and day to day events. His warm and friendly nature was what I needed and I never felt judged with anything that was discussed which was really important for me. I would recommend anyone having difficulties to contact Ryan for support/help."

"No words could ever thank you for all your support over the past year"

"I always felt safe and secure in Ryan's presence. Ryan is very skilled in his area of expertise, he truly helped me to identify and deal with my issues. With Ryan's caring and genuine support this has helped me to move forward. I would not hesitate to go back to Ryan should the need arise. I would recommend to anyone that may feel any sense of apprehension in seeking Ryan's assistance, that they take advantage of his telephone consultation as a first step. Thank You!"

"I've gone from drinking every night to being sober for 93 days. Thank you Ryan"

"It's great to feel heard and understood"

"I put off counselling for such a long time. I knew I needed it but it seemed really scary. A friend had gone through counselling with Ryan and highly recommended him. For months I did nothing about it but one day I picked up the phone and looking back I should have done it months ago! For the first time in a very long time I actually felt heard"

"Initially I felt embarrassed about even needing therapy but Ryan changed all that.  In fact I would go as far as to say I look forward to my sessions every week because it gives me the chance talk freely and know I'm being listened to.  I leave therapy after a few months leaving stronger and more confident."
