We all feel the effects of anxiety at some point in our lives, be it when we are attending an interview, or sitting an exam. It is a normal function of our body as it prepares to perform some action, and generally it passes soon after the activity begins. Unfortunately some people experience anxiety more intensely, sometimes continuously throughout the day. The effects of which can be drastic and extremely deliberating.
If you are experiencing:
- Intense fear that is continual even when at home, without anything to cause the fear being present.
- Expecting the worst out of situations.
- You find yourself looking for the smallest signs of problems.
- Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future but not focusing on the here-and-now.
- Feeling exhausted and drained of energy.
- Avoiding everyday activities like meeting friends, or going out.
- Generally feeling overwhelmed.
Any one of these problems can be enough to unsettle a person and cause distress, extreme anxiety disorders usually present with a number of these symptoms however. If you feel that you might be experiencing some of these problems, or anything else then I can help you try to gain some insight into why this might be happening.
I am a fully qualified counsellor offering accessible online counselling support via Skype to clients who are facing difficulty with anxiety, stress and depression. As an accredited member of the National Counselling Society, I am fully insured and attend regular counselling supervision in keeping with the National Counselling Societies ethical framework.
I have a special interest in working with social anxiety, health anxiety and work related stress.
My way of working
Being a humanistic counsellor, my way of working is relational. I believe in focusing on the present, and on the therapeutic relationship. I work hard to provide you the right conditions to promote change and growth, which involves connecting with you, respecting your autonomy and helping you in fostering a greater sense of self-sufficiency and agency. I do this with the provision of person-centred counselling and solution-focused brief therapy. The therapy I offer is centred around you (the client) and I aim to meet you where you are and go at your own pace. In effect you control the fuel, and also the wheel. I won't presume to tell you which direction to go, only to act as a pillar of support while you explore the issues that are standing in your way. I have found my way of working to be most effective when working with anxiety and depression, as well as with increasing self-esteem, motivation and autonomy.
How can counselling help you
Talking is helpful. Being able to give voice to the things that go around our heads can bring clarity and insight in the place of confusion and lack of understanding. Being genuinely heard and understood by another person, feeling accepted, and being able to be our true selves without judgement can lead to a sense of freedom and empowerment. Being in a therapeutic relationship can help us to work on issues that prevent us being the best version of ourselves, so we can more easily reach our potential.
What I offer
I intend to provide a safe and secure environment which you can use to help you work through your issues, with provision of long term and short-term support. I will work with you using a platform centred around you to achieve the goals you wish to pursue, without judgement or reservation and to help you discover your potential hidden strengths to develop the solutions you need. Some things cannot be changed, but our feelings can be, my aim is to help you to explore those feelings in the safe and confidential space that we create together.
For me counselling isn’t something that should be exclusive to certain situations or circumstances and as such I offer online support via face to face video messaging in order to create an easily accessible support platform for anyone to engage with and potentially benefit from. I also understand that meeting someone in person for support might be an intimidating process for many people and being able to provide support to those who need it whilst they are in the comfort and safety of their own environments such as at home is very important to me. I believe counselling should be an encouraging and developing experience, not a limiting one and so I aim to meet you where you are currently and go at your own pace so that we can work together to achieve the best outcomes possible for you.
What to expect from the first session
Our initial session is an opportunity for us to be able to get to know each other a little more and see if we can work together. It is a chance for you to see how you feel about talking to me and if you feel that I am the right counsellor for you, It will also allow you to ask any questions you may have.
There is no obligation to continue after the initial phone call or first session if you do not wish to do so.
I accept payments via bank transfer or Paypal.
Email or call to make a booking and I look forward to meeting you.
