About me

If you are thinking about counselling it may be that you you are facing difficult life events that sometimes feel overwhelming. There may be also be feelings from past experiences that are difficult to think about. You may feel you want space to talk over what you really want from life.

It can sometimes seem too difficult and painful to talk through how you feel with people close to you. In your counselling with me we will build a relationship of respect and trust where your experiences, thoughts and feelings can be validated in a completely non-judgmental way. This gives you the opportunity to look at your feelings and experiences in different ways. In this safe environment there may be feelings that have been hard or impossible to put into words and now can be expressed for the first time. We will also look at ways to manage your feelings in the present and make changes in your life that will enable you to discover your potential . If you have been experiencing difficulties in relationships and self esteem, perhaps combined now with a sense of hopelessness it is important to stress that in addition to my responsibility to you as my client a sense of equality in our counselling relationship is also an important starting point to becoming empowered in your life generally.

Before becoming a counsellor I worked as a teacher, specialising in art. I also taught young people with learning difficulties.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a registered BACP counsellor. I qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor in 2000 and then added a senior counsellor practitioner's qualification in 2012. I work in an integrative way, combining theoretical approaches from person centred, humanistic counselling as well as psychodynamic. I have worked particularly with survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence. I also have experience of working with people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
