About me

I offer short term counselling and longer term psychotherapy from my private practice in Stroud, Gloucestershire for Individuals and for Couples.

Short term Individual Counselling is helpful for managing Anxiety, Stress and Depression where we can explore your feelings and work on tools to make changes; short term work is interventionist and I draw on a more CBT and Solution Focussed approach to identify patterns and make changes.

The longer term  and often open-ended Psychotherapeutic work tends toward more self-exploration and gives us the time and space to explore some of those uncomfortable feelings and processes at a pace that you are comfortable with.

I work with Couples and have undergone a year long post graduate qualification with Relate and work for Relate as an Associate Counsellor and in Private Practice. Together we can explore the difficulties you are experiencing in your relationship and work toward making changes.

My therapy room is discreet, bright and comfortable with ample parking nearby and easy access to public transport; I work from a dedicated therapy room adjacent to my home between the Uplands area of Stroud and the village of Slad. I also practice from rooms at 1 Bath Street in central Stroud.

I work with and have experience of working with a range of issues including:

Anxiety

Depression

Anger

Bereavement

Employment difficulties

Low self-esteem

Relationship difficulties (individual and couples)

Separation and divorce

Sexuality

Bullying

Stress

Trauma

I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and adhere to their code of ethics for safe and ethical practice. I am also involved in regular CPD, Peer Group and have regular Supervision. I am fully insured.

I am passionate about Mental Health and it's de-stimagisation and am committed to improving the lives of people through developing self-awareness.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • PG Diploma in Couples Therapy Training with Relate
  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy (CPCAB)
  • Certificate in Counselling Studies (CPCAB)
  • Certificate in Listening Skills (CPCAB)
  • Diploma in Auricular Acupuncture
  • Body Acupuncture (ATCM)

Prior to working as a counsellor and psychotherapist I worked as a natural health practitioner combining various natural healing modalities, with a main focus on acupuncture and bodywork; I found then and continue to find now the correlation between somatic responses (bodily felt responses) and the emotional self to be both fascinating and inspiring.

I have experience of working as a Counsellor within an Employee Assistance Programme Provider offering short term Solution Focussed Interventions and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Interventions; working with Anxiety (Social Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Health Anxiety and Phobias), Depression, Stress, Work-Related Stress, Bullying and Life Changing events that are difficult to come to terms with (death, redundancy, illness, etc).
