About me

As a qualified and professional therapist I offer short term counselling and longer term psychotherapy from my private practice in Stroud, Gloucestershire for Individuals and Couples.

I offer a free initial half hour consultation whereby we meet and can discuss what you need and how we can work together. This is a safe, confidential way for us to determine how we can work together to explore what you need from therapy.

The therapy rooms I practice from are discreet, bright and comfortable with ample parking nearby and easy access to public transport; I work from a dedicated therapy room adjacent to my home between the Uplands area of Stroud and the village of Slad. I also practice from rooms at 1 Bath Street in central Stroud.

Using an Integrative approach to therapy I am trained and have experience of working with a number of theoretical models and approaches to therapy including Transactional Analysis, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Systemic Therapy and mindfulness with a Person Centred Core.

This Integrative Approach enables me to tailor the therapy I offer to suit your specific needs, expectations and goals; whether this be using CBT and Solution Focussed Interventions to help you manage symptoms of Anxiety, or, for example drawing on a more Psychodynamic and Systemic approach to look at gaining greater awareness of you and your established patterns of relating with self and others.

I have recently completed a post qualification in Relationship Counselling and work with Relate Avon and as a Relate Associate within Private Practice on a part time basis and can offer relationship counselling for Individuals and Couples.

My Continuous Professional Development (CPD) tends toward Trauma and Trauma recovery, and I have an avid interest in the subject, particularly in relation to brain science and neuroplasticity; the brain's ability to 're-wire' pathway feels to be an integral aspect of recovery.

I work with and have experience of working with a range of issues including:

Employment difficulties

Low self-esteem

Relationship difficulties (individual and couples)

Separation and divorce

I also have training and experience in working with complex mental health problems and am able to work with individuals experiencing the effects of trauma resulting from abuse and those at risk of self harm.

I am a member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and adhere to their code of ethics for safe and ethical practice. I am also involved in regular CPD, Peer Group and have fortnightly clinical supervision.

I am passionate about Mental Health and it's de-stimagisation and am committed to improving the lives of people through developing self-awareness.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Couples Therapy Training with Relate
  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy (CPCAB)
  • Certificate in Counselling Studies (CPCAB)
  • Certificate in Listening Skills (CPCAB)
  • Diploma in Auricular Acupuncture
  • Body Acupuncture (ATCM)

Prior to working as a counsellor and psychotherapist I worked as a natural health practitioner combining various natural healing modalities, with a main focus on acupuncture and bodywork; I found then and continue to find now the correlation between somatic responses (bodily felt responses) and the emotional self to be both fascinating and inspiring.

I have an avid interest in Trauma and have worked within CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) working with young people who have experienced complex trauma and abuse. I also work in a male prison with offenders who are surviving complex trauma and abuse. My CPD tends toward learning about trauma recovery.

I work for an Employee Assistance Programme Provider offering short term Solution Focussed Interventions and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Interventions; working with Anxiety (Social Anxiety, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Health Anxiety and Phobias), Depression, Stress, Work-Related Stress, Bullying and Life Changing events that are difficult to come to terms with (death, redundancy, illness, etc).
