About me

I have had many roles in life, from my first job as a barge-hand to my last as a bookseller of 24 years. Counselling, following a troubling childhood, and the impact of that through my adult life, has helped me in my relationships and in my working life. Over 4 years ago I began training to be able to offer the same help to others that has benefitted me so greatly.

Therapy is a space to slow things down, so that we can begin to recognize those patterns and feelings that often happen quickly, without awareness or reflection. In our conversations together, we create a dialogue that provides opportunities to recognize and know these states more fully, helping us, in time, to connect with others more deeply and live a more congruent life. The time that we share in these sessions allows pauses to occur in our thinking and feeling, pauses that allow us to see the potential for choices to arise. These choices offer us a freedom from harmful and sometimes self-defeating patterns; an opportunity to realise a better, more self-aware version of ourselves.

I offer a compassionate and person-centred approach to therapy, integrating psychodynamic and existential perspectives to develop a dialogue that is suited to your needs. This approach will adapt and develop as we explore how these needs change and grow within the therapeutic alliance that we form. We can review our progress at any time, and I can provide short or long-form therapy in accordance with what is appropriate for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I have recently left my work selling books, to focus full-time on growing a counselling practice. At this time, I am only able to offer online or telephone counselling and I am happy to offer you a free 15-minute consultation to see whether we can work together and develop a plan for our sessions as we move forward.
