Robert Richardson MBACP (Reg), MBPS, PGCE
My belief is that every individual has the potential to change, if they so desire it.
I am an integrative counsellor, having trained in person-centred, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches.
I work one-to-one and in group facilitation. My client base is non-restricted, and I promise that in our work you will be taken on your own merit, not by label, diagnoses or personal preferences.
I firmly believe, that there are very few areas that cannot be helped through therapeutic counselling. But should we encounter that situation, a positive, collaborative referral will be made with your best interest at the heart of the process.
The work I do with my clients focuses on anxiety, low mood and depression, stress, anger management, and changing unwanted feelings and behaviours. I have a solid background of working in addictive behaviours, LGBTQ+ communities and in educational and employment settings.
A significant part of my background comes from working in employment and educational settings - I was a teacher before retraining as a counsellor. I then counselled staff and students in their schools, and continue to do so with the NHS and in private work.
I have extensive experience working with clients experiencing weight loss and weight management problems. I work with clients whose symptoms manifest into over-eating, and self-soothing with food - although underlying issues typically reveal themselves to be anxiety, depression, past trauma, low self-esteem and stress.
I also work with clients experiencing substance abuse issues, including gambling, and extend my practice to chaperoning for AA/CA/CMA/GA meetings - fees which can be discussed.
I am a tutor for the CPCAB; delivering the Introductory courses, Understanding Substance Misuse and Diplomas in Therapeutic Counselling.
I offer a brief telephone consultation to assess your therapy needs and how you wish to proceed. This is then followed by an initial assessment and contracting session and a no obligation continuation of sessions for however long you wish.
I look forward to working with you and bringing you back to yourself.
