Robert D Hardy MBACP - Diploma in Psychotherapy - BACP Registered
We all find life a struggle sometimes, and there can be times when we feel we need to make changes in the ways that we think, feel, behave and relate to others. We can feel down or anxious, or angry and resentful, and not really understand why. At times like these talking to an experienced professional can really make a difference.
Asking for help can be difficult, and it is important to choose someone who has the knowledge and experience to find the right approach for you, and brings a compassionate and non-judgemental attitude to help create a safe and understanding environment.
I offer integrative and relational counselling and psychotherapy in Nantwich, South Cheshire.
My approach to counselling is grounded firmly on the beliefs that we are all have the ability to change and grow, and that we all have the right to decide our own destiny. Counselling gives you time and opportunity to reflect on the changes you want to make in your life, and you will have support instead of having to do it on your own.
There are an infinite number of reasons that can bring someone to counselling. In order for us to live our lives in the way we want to, we sometimes need to update the strategies for dealing with life that we have developed over the years, and counselling offers the tools to help to move away from unhelpful repetitive patterns and move towards autonomy, awareness and intimacy.
The atmosphere that supports good counselling is one of comfort, security, and respect, and I offer clients an atmosphere that is secure, respectful and non-judgemental, to ensure that a positive, supporting alliance is established between us.
What Can We Work On
I’ve worked with people experiencing a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to):
- Low self esteem
- Relationship difficulties
- Personality disorders
- Sexuality and gender identity
I work with adults individually and in groups, and with couples seeking relationship counselling.
I specialise in working with adults who have experienced trauma and are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) using non-invasive techniques that minimise the risk of re-traumatisatio.
What To Expect In Your First Session
The first session is when we start to learn about each other. I'll ask you a few questions about yourself and why you've decided to access therapy, and I'm sure you'll have some questions you'll want to ask me. We might talk a little about the practicalities of being in therapy, but the main focus of the first session will be our 'therapeutic contract' - what it is that you want to change from being in therapy.
About My Practice
My Nantwich practice is based at Tealstone Therapy Rooms in the town centre, handy for the bus and train stations, and with plenty of parking nearby.
Premises are accessed by means of stairs - if you have mobility difficulties please let me know.
I offer a one hour assessment session to help prospective clients to decide whether or not to commit to counselling. In this session we can talk generally about what is troubling you, the services I offer, what therapy might be like, and how we might work together. At the end of the session we should both have a better idea of whether the services I offer are right for you. An assessment session costs £20 (half the regular fee).
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a BACP registered counsellor and therapist. My principle training is in transactional analysis and I have a diploma in transactional analysis psychotherapy (awarded after 4 years of study). I am currently working towards European accreditation in TA psychotherapy.
I have additional qualifications in clinical hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming, and life and performance coaching.
Like many practitioners, I decided to become a therapist as a result of my own experience of being in therapy. I know at first hand just how powerful the process can be in helping to make and sustain important changes in life.
I have worked full time as a therapist for the last 6 years after a long career working in the charity, social work and education sectors.
