Individual counselling and psychotherapy
What has prompted you to seek counselling or psychotherapy? Are you struggling in some way and looking for support? Are you experiencing what is commonly described as anxiety or depression? Does life feel like a labyrinth, a maze in which you’re lost? Do you find yourself in the same place time and again, as if you’re going round in circles? Are you aware of patterns of behaviour and relating that no longer serve you well, yet you’re not sure how to do things differently? Or maybe you’re experiencing a crisis or a time of change and transition, and would like to find ways to manage this.
How can counselling and psychotherapy help you?
Counselling and psychotherapy – therapy for short – offers us an opportunity to bring and share our deepest selves, to practise new ways of responding to ourselves and others, and to find more satisfying ways of living our lives. In both short- and longer-term work we can identify and work with patterns and identities we embody, and how these play out in our relationships with ourselves and others. For me, a key benefit and goal of therapy is learning the art of self-management and self-regulation; we do this through growing our awareness, and exploring and experimenting with how we use ourselves and how we form our attitudes and behaviour.
How do I work?
In working together I can help you navigate your way through your current life situation by offering you a space to be present with yourself and your experience in a supportive, professional relationship. Doing so can help you increase your awareness of different possibilities, and deepen your relationship with yourself and others. We work with the whole of you, taking into account your body, mind and emotions. We might look at your experience to date, your present patterns, and what you want for yourself in the future. We look at how you are experiencing whatever it is you're experiencing, as much as why. We also consider your values and what gives your life meaning. In therapy you can form a different relationship to your past experiences by working with your present self, growing and integrating new attitudes and action patterns. I work in a relational way, paying attention to how you relate to me in the sessions as a reflection of how you relate to yourself and others in your daily life.
If you’re interested in working together have a look at my website for further information. Please call or email me to arrange an initial phone conversation; from this we would decide whether or not to have a first exploratory session at which we look at what you would like to work on in greater depth and detail, along with the practicalities of how we work together.
