About me

Hello, I'm Bex.

I am a warm and supportive counsellor who looks to offer a safe space in which you can explore whatever difficulties you may be experiencing, or past events that may be troubling you. It may be relationship difficulties, bereavement, depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, trauma, abuse, self harm, or general life stress, or it may even be that you're looking to explore your own inner world in depth - counselling can offer a wonderful opportunity to really be heard and have your experiences validated.

I work from an integrative, relational approach. It may be that you need something gentle, just an ear to listen, or perhaps something more dynamic, creative or challenging. However we approach the work, it will be a collaborative effort between the two of us, making sure we stick to a pace that feels safe for you.

I am LGBTQ+ and kink friendly.

Alongside my private practice I was also a counsellor for a charity specialising in working with adult survivors of sexual violence. Prior to this I worked in a therapeutic support capacity for people affected by self harm and for a charity specialising in working with young people.

I am also an associate lecturer at the University of the West of England, as part of their Psychology Department's Art and Mental Health modules. I am an illustrator and writer and facilitate a variety of therapy training courses for various organisations.

I work from my home in Horfield and offer individual counselling both short (12 weeks) and long term.

I am fully qualified and a Registered Member of the BACP and NCS.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

People often come to counselling when they are feeling vulnerable in some way, and it can be extremely challenging trying to choose a counsellor who works in a way that feels comfortable. I am very happy to discuss how I work over the telephone or by email before an appointment is made and again at any point during our time together.
