About me

I am a Neurodivergent (Autistic, ADHD, Synaesthesic) Neuroaffirming Psychotherapist and Psychoeducator. I specialise in working with discovering, diagnosed, and self-realised Neurodivergent adults (18+), and Neurodivergent parents.

Finding the right therapist can be really tough. Many Neurodivergent folk have experienced a lot of complex trauma, and some of that trauma may be from family, relationships, education, or health professionals, or even from other therapists who lack the knowledge and lived experience of neurodivergence.

My therapeutic work is relational, encompassing somatic, creative, parts work, and person-centred approaches. It is about enabling a validating and genuinely affirming and inclusive environment to talk or express whatever you need.

A lot of clients want a mix of neurodivergent psychoeducation as well as therapy to really understand and unlayer their authentic selves, as well as uncovering and shaking off that shame dust. I am a big believer that therapists should work with the whole self, not just the mind. This means understanding how our environments and experiences impact body, mind, and relationships.

I am a home-educating Mum to two neurodivergent children. I have experienced the complexity of shame, blame, and ultimately harm that parts of the education system can do for neurodivergent families. I work with a lot of neurodivergent parents, often who are advocating for their childrens rights and safety within the education system.

True authenticity as a therapist, is really important to me. I am a tad sweary, I am curious and open, and I am as transparent as is needed at any time. I am boundaried and professional, acutely conscious of creating unique safe spaces for individual clients, but therapy shouldn't exclude feeling joy and being 'real'. This can be a different experience for some clients who expect or have experience with someone more formal and closed.

Training, qualifications & experience

My therapeutic approach is ever evolving as I am always learning. At its heart, it is neuroaffirming, humanistic, and relational. I studied a BA (hons) degree in Person-Centred and the Psychotherapeutic Relationship at Warwick University. I have continued my ever evolving, ever curious mind on journeys into polyvagal, neurodivergent specific complex trauma, working with mind and body work.

Lots of my clients haven't often (if ever) felt truly heard, believed, or understood, and my aim with any meeting is to develop an environment that is as safe as can be and to offer an authentic and validating space to share whatever needs to be shared.

I believe therapeutic work should be holistic, working from a physiological and psychological framework. The mind is not separate from the body, and understanding how our nervous system, in particular, works and impacts our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours can be incredibly useful to work out ways to heal, replenish, and nourish.

I also head up the counselling services for Autistic Parents UK, and as a neurodivergent parent myself, working with other neurodivergent parents has been a really integral part of my practice. Being a neurodivergent parent (usually to neurodivergent children) can bring unique joys and unique challenges in a society with 'normative' expectations.

I love to write, and I am also a sessional lecturer and training consultant for various Universities and Colleges, specialising in teaching trainee therapists and counsellors all about Neurodivergence and Neuroaffirming practice.

I bring the real me to the therapeutic relationship, I bring genuine authenticity and transparency. I can't promise I am the right therapist for you, but I can say that I will be open and curious to truly listen and understand, to genuinely validate your experiencing, and I will endeavour to create the safe and inclusive space you need to explore what it means to be you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I work purely online, which works for a lot of neurodivergent clients who can feel safe in a familiar and predictable environment. It also gives us the option to use the written chat function, cameras can be on or off, and I also encourage clients who express emotions more easily through art or music to share so we can explore together.
