About me

Hi I'm Rebecca, a Counsellor & accredited CBT & Couples Therapist.

I have more than 14 years experience, including 8 years working as a senior therapist for a large London NHS trust. I offer both daytime & evening appointments in the SE3 area.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I can draw from a variety of different therapeutic approaches to best help you. I aim to create a supportive space in which to explore difficulties together & to help you take an active approach to feeling better. I am a warm and compassionate therapist, with a collaborative style.

Additionally I am an Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is a popular type of therapy as research has shown that it is helpful for difficulties such as stress, worry, low self esteem, anxiety problems, and low mood/depression.

CBT is a practical, active, and structured type of therapy. It is generally a short-term approach, where we together explore what may have contributed to the development of your difficulties & importantly what is keeping the problem going now. Put simply, CBT is about identifying unhelpful patterns in how we think & how we behave. Then developing alternative strategies & skills to manage emotional distress, build coping and resilience.

It’s a common misconception that in CBT we do not talk about past experiences- we do & it can be really important, to express feelings & to understand how things from the past might be impacting us now.

It can be anxiety provoking to think about seeking help and take courage to start therapy, especially if you haven’t had therapy before. Therapy can provide a sense of hope, understanding, and relief. My aim is that when therapy comes to an end, you can move forward feeling confident in yourself, and with skills and strategies to help with future life stressors, and improve long term health & wellbeing.

I have been a lecturer & supervisor on an integrative course at Birkbeck, University of London.

Couples Therapy:

I received my training & specialist supervision from the Tavistock Relationships Centre.

Couples therapy is a balanced process, where both partners have space to talk & different perspectives are shared & valued. The therapy aims to raise awareness of unhelpful patterns and couple interactions; build emotional openness and closeness; change unhelpful thoughts, assumptions & perceptions that impact the relationship, and increase effective communication and behaviour.

I have experience of working with parents to consider children’s development and how to support children’s emotional wellbeing, especially at times of transition/emotional difficulty.

I worked for a charity, leaders in the field of children’s mental health & wellbeing. I worked both with children through art & play therapy, and with parents. I have a Certificate in Children’s Emotional Literacy.
