About me

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

If you are here, you are likely going through a challenging time or experiencing some emotional difficulties. You may feel stuck, overwhelmed, depressed, anxious or even angry. Perhaps you're not quite sure how you feel.  I'm glad that you are taking steps to access the support that you need.

As a warm, relatable and experienced therapist, I can help you navigate and overcome these difficulties.

Let me introduce myself, my name is Rebecca Harrison, I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor and BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist.  I am very passionate about the work that I do. At present, I work within a NHS Talking Therapies service helping clients experiencing a range of difficulties including: Depression, Anxiety, Social Anxiety, OCD and Panic Disorder.

I also run a well-established counselling practice for individuals impacted by domestic abuse and have spent 8 years developing my knowledge within the specialist area of narcissistic abuse. I believe that it is vitally important that survivors are supported by someone who understands the far reaching effects of this particular type of abuse, and who is equipped with the knowledge and tools to help their client navigate an often complex situation. If you are in this situation (or perhaps questioning whether you are) and are looking for support in this area, I am confident I can help you.

I will help you to explore emotional difficulties and painful memories at a pace comfortable to you, whilst helping you to develop coping skills, strengthen your self self-esteem; promote behavioral change and improve your overall mental well-being.

I am able to offer face to face in person or remote sessions (video call or telephone) or perhaps a mixture of both, if this suits your needs. Feedback from my clients has indicated that working remotely has really suited their often busy lives and allows them to experience the benefits of therapy from their own home.

Training, qualifications & experience

As both a Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, I can draw on a variety of tools and interventions to best suit your individual needs and together we can create a treatment plan that helps you move towards your goals.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is often called 'the gold standard' of treatment for depression and anxiety based disorders, and I can offer a range of treatments recommended by NICE Clinical Guidelines, including treatment that specifically address the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Next steps:

I can offer a free initial telephone consultation, in which you can ask any questions you may have, perhaps explore your goals for therapy and find out whether I am the right therapist for you.

Qualifications:

  • Post Graduate Diploma (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

  • Counselling for Depression Certificate.

  • BA First Class Hons (Counselling)

  • Foundation Degree with Merit (Counselling)

  • Level 3 Certificate (Counselling)

  • Qualified Independent Domestic Violence Advocate

As the saying goes ‘you don't have to see the whole staircase just take the first step.'

I look forward to hearing from you, until then take good care.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
