About me

Hello I'm Rachel, a qualified, experienced counsellor and a registered member of the BACP CYPF. I am passionate about my work and care deeply about helping people. Talking really can and does help at difficult times in our lives.

I believe in the healing and transformative power of the therapuetic relationship where you will be accepted, not judged and within which I hope you will come to feel safe and trusting enough to explore all of your feelings, even the difficult ones.

I will listen carefully to enable me to understand your world as deeply as I can as if I were looking through your eyes. I believe in and acknowledge you as the unique person you are and as such that you are of infinite value, I could walk the whole world over and there would only be one of you.

There are many reasons for deciding to seek counselling; difficulties in your past and present with relationships, life events and your feelings and thoughts. I can help you make links between your life experiences and how you feel and think today which can promote healing and empower you in the present.

Most importantly therapy is a place where you can be with me just as you are and it will be a privilege for me to be allowed into your internal world.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the BACP CYPF holding liability insurance and committing to regular supervision and yearly safeguarding training.

My foundation counselling model is Person Centred, I work integratively with understanding and experience using different therapeutic modalities to include CBT, Solution Focused Therapy and working creatively with clients. This enables me to offer you therapy specifically matched to you and your needs which will allow you choice to discover and decide what you feel is most helpful. In my practice I work as a school counsellor and for a leading Northamptonshire agency working with children and vulnerable adults and have significant experience of working with child and adolescent mental health issues. I also work with clients of all ages in my private practice, Buttercup Counselling, where you are ensured a safe, confidential and warm environment.

I have particular experience and understanding of working with emotional eating and restrictive easting disorders and am a co founder of ISR - identify, separate, release - a therapeutic tool devised to help with recovery and which is recognised by BEAT. The website is www.isr-recovery.com.

I offer face to face, in person plus online and with telephone.
I have training for and experience in working online and I offer  Zoom, WhatsApp, FaceTime and telephone. There are many benefits to this type of therapy:

  • It is entirely convenient for you and gives you greater control over how and where you engage with therapy.
  • It is a way to have therapy anywhere in a place that is comfortable and safe for you. You can be in your car if this is a more private and confidential setting for you, all you need is a sufficient internet connection.
  • Travelling, holidays, work shift patterns are more flexibly accommodated.
  • For those with a lack of mobility , physical and mental health issues online therapy can be more accessible.
  • It is safe at this difficult and uncertain time, with technology you can still have a space in which you can connect even when around us the world and our environment is smaller and for some isolating and lonely.
  • You have a greater choice of therapists as you are not limited geographically.
  • The “ disinhibition effect” (Suler 2004 ) is when clients often feel able to be more open and less inhibited when talking with their therapist. This is one of the biggest differences from face to face counselling.

Online and telephone therapy has been offering effective therapy for a number of decades, its effectiveness is well researched and documented. It is my experience that clients have found this style of therapy as valuable as face to face and at times more so. Online and telephone therapy is not a second best option to face to face although I respect and understand that it is not for everyone.

If you are still unsure, I offer a 15-20 minute free taster session so that you can experience being and talking with me in an online setting.

My main professional qualifications include:

  • CPCAB Level 4 Diploma: Therapeutic Counselling

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
