About me

I am a fully qualified and highly experienced BACP accredited counsellor with over 20 years experience of offering one-to-one counselling / therapy.  I work with adults either on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period.

You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, low in your mood or just not feeling like 'yourself'. Sometimes it is clear to us why we are feeling the way we are and sometimes it is not so easy to figure out. You may have been impacted by recent life events or / and there may be issues you have been managing for a longer period of time.

My approach is collaborative and relational, I offer a confidential and supportive space in which we can work together to explore and make sense of what is difficult and think about ways, perhaps involving some new ideas, to move forward in your life.

Fridays: I practice from a quiet garden therapy room in the heart of Walthamstow Village, E17 (5-10 mins walk from Walthamstow Central)

Mondays: I offer online appointments

What happens after you have made contact with me?

Beginning the search for a counsellor can feel overwhelming and practically can be time consuming. It will be very important that I feel like the right 'fit' for you and that professionally I can offer you the skills, experience and knowledge you need.

Free pre-counselling phone call:

To save you time and to help with this process I offer a free pre-counselling call (usually around 20 minutes long) before we arrange to meet up in person. Before this, I will send you a copy of my practice information document which has full practical details about the service I offer.

In the initial phone call I will be interested to know about:

- The issues that have led you to seek support now.

- Any previous experience you have had of counselling or therapy - what has or hasn't been helpful?

- What you are looking for from a counsellor and counselling sessions at this time.

- General questions about health & wellbeing and current support.

- You can ask me anything which is of importance to you in deciding whether you wish to proceed with me.

If after this initial conversation I feel I would potentially be able to offer you support and you would also like to proceed, I will suggest that we meet for a full initial session to discuss the areas mentioned above in more detail and to establish if we will work together. If I do not feel I am the right person to offer you counselling either after our phone call or the initial session I may offer suggestions for alternative referral information or recommendations.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed 4 years of training at the Metanoia Institute and hold a BA (Hons) Person-Centred Counselling.  I also completed training and hold a Certificate in Supervision at Metanoia.

Significant experience in working with clients who experience anxiety, stress, panic attacks, career-crisis, work-related stress, relationship difficulties, family issues, life-transition issues, low confidence, depression, PTSD-type symptoms relating to trauma including domestic and sexual violence (recent or historic).

Experienced in working with clients who may be exploring the possibility of or have a diagnosis of ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, dyslexia, etc. I am not qualified to assess for these conditions.

In addition to Private Practice I have worked in a GP surgery and as a counsellor, supervisor, trainer and clinical assessor for community counselling services such as MIND and ELMS-in-Waltham Forest. I have supported university students for 20 years across various London universities and currently still work within a University of London counselling service.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
