About me

I’m Rachel and I’m a fully qualified Person-centred Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I offer face to face therapy for adults over the age of 18. My therapy practice is in the heart of Chester city centre, near to the cathedral and shops.

As a person-centred therapist I will offer you a therapeutic relationship which is free from judgement, and full of acceptance, empathy, and congruence (‘being real’). Most importantly, I aim to create a safe space where you can explore your feelings and experiences to gain a better understanding of them and of yourself, and where we can relate to one another human to human.

I have a special interest in working with:

  • Trauma (including PTSD / post-traumatic stress)
  • Anxiety (including panic attacks, social anxiety and health anxiety)
  • Spirituality

and have also supported clients with struggles with:

  • Depression & hopelessness
  • Mood swings
  • Bereavement, loss & grief
  • Self-esteem and sense of self
  • Perfectionism
  • Guilt & shame
  • Abuse
  • Bullying
  • Obsessive & intrusive thoughts
  • Work issues
  • Health
  • Burnout
  • Relationships
  • Rejection & abandonment
  • Loneliness
  • Anger & rage
  • Uncertainty, feeling 'stuck'
  • Change, life transitions & decisions
  • Acceptance
  • Self-expression
  • Body image & eating disorders

Training, qualifications & experience

  • FdA Person-centred Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of Warwick)
  • BA (Hons) Person-centred Counselling & Psychotherapy (University of Warwick) (1st class)
  • I am currently studying for an MA in Trauma Informed Practice (University of Nottingham)

To develop my practice, I have also undertaken additional mental health CPD training in areas such as anxiety, OCD, dissociation, trauma, bereavement, anger, and spirituality.

In addition to my therapy work, I have 18 years of experience working for the NHS as a Registered Nurse.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I offer a free, no obligation 20 minute telephone chat, prior to starting therapy. This chat gives you the opportunity to share the reason you are looking for a therapist, and for me to share some more information about my practice and the way that I work. You will also have the chance to ask any questions about the process. Ultimately, it gives us both the chance to see if we are a good 'fit' to work together.

If you decide to proceed, will we arrange a suitable time for our first face to face session, which will include a full assessment.

All face to face therapy sessions are for one full hour (60 minutes).
