About me

When was the last time you felt you could breathe?

When we are struggling to cope and function it can feel overwhelmingly isolating. At times, the mere thought of enduring the next five minutes can feel too much, let alone the future. The simple action of you being here, searching for a therapist suggests that you no longer wish to cope alone. There is a desire for change. A desire to thrive rather than survive.

I am a Cognitive Behavioural therapist who will work with you to explore the tangled thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are keeping your emotional distress going. Although CBT trained, I use an integrative approach which means that I use different models of counselling depending on your needs.

I specialise in helping people break free from anxiety, fears, and unhelpful thinking and behaviours. I will help you explore the triggers for shifts in your emotions and I will show you simple, effective ways to manage them healthily, giving you more control of your life. I also specialise in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and actively use DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) within my practise. I have lived experience of BPD and this helps me support individuals to move to a place of healing.

I will help you uncover and connect to your feelings so that you can make the right decisions for you. Your current unhelpful, exhausting ways of coping will reduce allowing you to feel you can move forward in life.

I will help you discover your needs and learn how to communicate them effectively. I take the time to listen and get to know you, hear your story and what has led you to access counselling. I will continue to support you with a recovery and relapse prevention plan once you are feeling well.

I understand the strength it requires to sit in the client’s chair, I have sat in it myself. In a safe space, we will work side by side to explore the issues that are impacting you in the here and now. We will build your resilience to enable you to navigate the trials and tribulations that life throws at you.

I also offer walk and talk therapy for clients who feel they may benefit from being outside in nature, walking side by side with me. Please check my website for more information on this.

COVID-19:

I am offering face-to-face and online counselling in these times to help clients choose the best approach for their therapy. I strictly follow current guidelines for face-to-face counselling to ensure my clients feel safe.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
