About me

Hello, I am a children's counsellor ready to support children between the ages of 5-12 as they navigate some of life's curveballs! 1 in 4 people will experience negative mental health in their life and will benefit from some support to feel well again. This is completely normal. I will get to know your child as much as possible to help them express themselves and learn new strategies to feel more comfortable with their emotions. And through getting therapy early, problems will not snowball into larger difficulties later in life.

Everybody will relate differently to their counsellor. Some children may want to speak to someone of a particular age, gender or who works in a specific way, which is completely understandable. You might be looking for someone who gives lots of advice or who asks lots of questions, for instance. Although each therapy relationship is unique, generally my practice is led by the following principles:

  • The child is the expert, and with some support will come to their own conclusions about what they need. I will listen attentively, increase self-awareness and empower your child to grow self-awareness and make progress in their wellbeing. The child is in control of what we talk about, how we work and setting the pace. I am never going to force them to talk about something which feels uncomfortable.
  • Our past informs our current relationships. We develop patterns and expectations built on past experiences, so I can think with you and your child about their early life, friendships and past relationships. Building awareness of these can be illuminating and help develop awareness. I will draw on other therapeutic models in an 'integrative' approach which means I will adapt to best suit your needs as the client.
  • Ethical practice: as a member of the BACP, I will uphold safe practice including confidentiality, respect and professionalism.

Please feel free to contact me for an initial call free-of-charge, with no obligations. I would love to learn about you and your child to see how I can support.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
