About me

I am a psychodynamic counsellor with a private practice in Frome, Somerset. I also work at Wessex Counselling & Psychotherapy as a sessional counsellor and intake worker.

I offer a safe, confidential space to work through areas of your life that might be troubling you. There may be something specific and obvious you are struggling with or perhaps there is a more general sense that things aren’t right; there is no ‘typical’ person who seeks out help. I work with people facing all kinds of emotional and relationship problems.

How I work

Psychodynamic counselling is a long established and trusted talking therapy for most emotional difficulties. It is a way of working which looks at how past events and relationships may be affecting your current situation. It is by becoming more aware of the influences of the past that you can begin to think differently and make some helpful changes.

Unlike CBT, psychodynamic work is an exploratory, rather than solution focused treatment; the aim being to get beneath surface level problems to the root causes. I encourage you to bring whatever is on your mind and with care, we think together, further explore and try to understand your experience and challenges. This can bring about lasting change and a huge sense of relief.

I usually work on an open-ended basis, with sessions continuing once weekly until they have served their purpose. People tend to come for months, rather than weeks and it is not unusual to come for a year, sometimes two, or longer. However, you are free to come for as many or as few sessions as you wish. All sessions are fifty minutes long and my fee is £45.

What happens next?

Reaching out for help and finding the right counsellor can feel overwhelming, so I would be pleased to hear from you if you have any questions or would like to arrange a short, free phone call. The next step would be to meet for an initial session where you would have an opportunity to tell me about yourself, discuss what has brought you to seek help and explore whether what I offer feels right for you. It is also an opportunity for me to consider whether I am able to offer you the kind of help that you need.
