Dr Poul Rohleder
97 Mortimer Street
I am an experienced clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist, as well as a Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) practitioner. I have 15 years part-time clinical work experience in private practice and the NHS.
I have a private practice in Marylebone, central London, where I offer both brief and long-term psychotherapy, including dynamic interpersonal therapy, psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Psychoanalytic or psychodynamic psychotherapy is a non-directive talking therapy which aims to help individuals explore more unconscious aspects of their behaviour, thoughts and feelings. By exploring these issues we can come to understand them more, and explore ways in which we can change. Psychotherapy can be brief in duration offered once weekly. Longer-term psychoanalytic psychotherapy offered two or three times a week may be more suitable to explore how past issues relate to current difficulties, and in particular, repeated patterns of behaviour and relating.
I also offer Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (or DIT), which is a time limited and structured psychotherapy for depression, typically delivered over 16 sessions. DIT aims to explore the connection between your depression or anxiety symptoms and your relationships, by identifying a core repetitive pattern or relating to others.
I have an interest in providing psychotherapy for:
- Grief and loss
- Anxiety and stress
- Difficulties related to sexuality and gender
- Struggles with feelings of shame and guilt
- Low self-image and self-esteem
- Difficulties with life transitions, migration and belonging.
Alongside my clinical work, I am an established academic and researcher and am involved in the training of clinical psychologists.

My fee for a consultation is £90. I reserve a limited number of spaces for psychotherapy at a reduced fee. I am a registered provider with most health insurers. Please check with your insurer if I am registered with them, and what fees they will cover, as many do not cover full therapy fees.
If I have availability, I will offer you an initial assessment session. During this assessment I will ask you a number of questions about you, and your background, and what has led you to seek psychotherapy. The assessment will also give you an opportunity to learn about how I work and what you can expect of me. Following this assessment, I would be able to offer you options for therapy. If I am not the right person, I will connect you to someone who can help.
Therapy sessions are 50 minutes at the same time each week. More intensive therapy (more sessions per week) is also available. Sessions are confidential, except in circumstances where there is a threat to your safety or the safety of another person.
