About me

We are living in unprecedented, uncertain times. Anxieties are running high and many people are finding themselves in a state of extreme stress. Whether that has been brought about through illness, employment concerns,  financial difficulties, or trauma etc

I am an Integrative Counsellor with over 18 years of experience in Counselling , and 22 years working in the field of Mental health.I also spent 7 years teaching and developing courses in both Counselling,  Managing anxiety and also facilitated  Personal Development groups for Counselling Students. I also delivered training in both Counselling and communication skills to the West Wales Fire Service. Alongside my private practice I worked for 5 years as a Counsellor for Dyfed Powys Police, and have worked a lot with survivors of trauma.

I come from a varied and diverse background, but following several traumas and life changing events of my own in the early 1990s ,I decided to change careers and re-train as a counsellor, I wanted to give something back, as I know that it was only with the intervention of Counselling and Therapy that I was able to follow my own road to recovery.

I offer a space where you can be yourself, free from any restrictions and safe in the knowledge that it is confidential.

I offer Online Counselling using either Doxy.me, Skype or  Whatsapp if you prefer. Sessions are 50-60 minutes in length

I have experience of Solution Focused therapy, where I work with someone for between 6 and 8 sessions, but also work with people for longer if that is what we both feel is needed.

I can also deliver single session therapy.

Relaxation & Guided Imagery

I offer relaxation and guided imagery sessions - Guided Imagery is a convenient and simple relaxation technique that can help you quickly and easily manage stress and reduce tension in your body. Once you have learnt the skills then you will be able to practice this for yourself.

Rewind Technique - VKDT ( Visual Kinesthetic disassociation technique)

I am also trained in the Rewind Technique, a non-intrusive, safe, psychological intervention, that can help neutralise a trauma or traumas experienced by a client, this is also effective for phobias.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as an Integrative Counsellor, and draw from 3 main theoretical perspectives, Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Behavioural. All this 'jargon' really means is that I have a variety of ways I can work depending on the client's needs. I keep my feet planted in person centred, but I also use CBT interventions, stone & art therapy and guided imagery to name just a few, but as everyone I see is an individual, with different needs and ways of expressing themselves, I will tailor the way I work with you based on what YOU want and the changes you want to bring about in your life. I will walk with you on your journey.

I have worked with Victims of serious Crime and within the field of Mental Health for over 20 years, as a counsellor, an advocate and in the role of mental health recovery practitioner. I attend various courses on a regular basis to update my skills base and increase the 'tools in my toolbox'.

As well as my Counselling qualifications I am also qualified as a trainer and taught Counselling and Communication skills for 7 years to adults, and the emergency services, both accredited and one day 'taster' courses. I have also written and delivered courses in understanding and managing anxiety.

So I have a variety of experience to draw from to help enable you to get to where you would like to be in your life.

I am a member of the BACP and abide by their ethical framework, and am supported by regular supervision, in accordance with BACP guidelines.

BACP = British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
