About me

There are many ideas about therapy, different beliefs, ideas and methods but for me at the core it is about two people collaborating together to work towards making positive changes.

Therapy isn't an easy thing to do. It takes courage to begin letting someone in to your world and trusting them with your thoughts and feelings and it takes commitment to stick with something which at times may feel as though it is getting worse before it gets better. The fact that you are here reading my profile means that you have already done part of the hard work and are reaching out looking for support so well done for that. Therapy can be challenging but the impact of therapeutic work can be extremely positive, it can offer support, understanding and clarity which can result in stronger relationships, a stronger sense of self, your needs and how to meet them in a healthy way.

Choosing a therapist can be hard work in itself, in order to help you decide if we might be a good fit I will tell you a bit about myself and how I work. I am a psychoanalytically trained psychotherapist,, which means I work with my clients to explore current circumstances and past events, considering difficulties they are having and how all these things may be linked. During the assessment session/s I may be quite directive as it is helpful to get a full picture but if there is ever something you are unhappy to discuss at that time it is important that you know that is no problem. Other than this I believe it is important for most sessions to be client lead as the space is there for you so it is not about what I feel you should be talking about, however I may ask questions to help you think further about what you bring to our time together. I am experienced in working with both adults and adolescents in areas that include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, thoughts of suicide and suicidal behaviours, self-harming behaviours, anger, miscarriage, relationships difficulties, low self-esteem and confidence, gender identity and sexual and domestic abuse. I have a special interest in understading and working with neurodiversity. I am based in Ramsgate, Kent.

If you are interested in working with me then I would recommend booking in for an assessment session first in which we can discuss your hopes and expectations of therapy, your current struggles, what I could offer and if this is something that you feel is a good fit for you.

Best Wishes
Phoebe

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
