About me

Are you struggling with difficult feelings? Feeling low and lacking in motivation? Feeling stuck and powerless to change? It is likely that counselling could help you. I am a counsellor with more than 13years of experience working with a wide range of different clients in both private practice and the voluntary setting.

About me:
Before training as a counsellor I had worked in the NHS for more than 20 years mainly in the area of cancer care and genetic life limiting disease.I know from personal experience how daunting it can be to take the step of going for counselling and know what it is like to sit in the clients chair!

My counselling experience has brought me into touch with a wide range of different individuals and continues to fuel my passion for the resources that each one of us has within us!

When Counselling could help:

You may need some help to get you through a difficult time:
You may be encountering relationship difficulties e.g, separation or divorce, betrayal or affairs or other family issues. Struggling to cope with a bereavement, or coming to terms with a serious or chronic illness or disability. You may be facing a major life change such as redundancy or unemployment.

You may be aware of patterns of behaviour that are harming yourself and affecting your relationships with others
:
self-harm, alcohol abuse, gambling,
disordered eating e.g anorexia or overeating. You may feel unable to change your patterns of thinking and behaving no matter how hard you try.
You may be anxious, stressed or depressed and these feelings just won't go away.

Perhaps you may be aware of underlying issues which affect you now
: abuse (physical , sexual, neglect, emotional), either in childhood or as an adult. There may be other issues from your past which you know affect the way life is for you now.

You can bring anything that you want to counselling and the truth is most things don't have clear labels .... come as you are and we can untangle things together!

What I can offer you
I can offer you a safe and confidential place for you to bring and talk about whatever is concerning you. I will seek to provide a relationship where you are listened to accepted and understood. Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
