Dr Penelope Smith-Lee Chong - Counselling and Occupational Psychologist
I am an HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist, an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, an ACT therapist and have been an independent consultant Chartered psychologist since 2003. I specialise in helping individuals regain their lives after being impacted upon by stress, anxiety, depression, injury or trauma. I enjoy working using a collaborative approach in a safe, calm environment with adults over the age of 18. I use an integrative style which draws on a mind/cognitive and body approach. I mainly use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - which includes mindfulness to help clients stabilise and then I use Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Sensorimotor psychotherapy for trauma- a body therapy to help the client process the issue e.g. trauma, attachment trauma/relationships. I also have been trained in Rational-Emotive Behaviour therapy (REBT), Mindfulness and CBT and integrate these within a Humanistic framework using what is most appropriate after consultation with yourself. I offer short to medium-term work.
I am also a registered Occupational Psychologist and Coaching Psychologist and possess 20 years of business experience in a variety of sectors which means that I have worked with organisations and employees, understand the impact work can have upon mental health and provide counselling for this.
I have worked in the NHS services with Adults and young Adults (severe and enduring mental health) e.g. depression, anxiety, self-harm, trauma etc providing medium to long-term therapy. I also have experience in CAMHS providing individual therapy for young adults e.g. depression, anxiety, self-harm.
Types of issues I deal with include but are not limited to: depression, anxiety, stress, trauma/abuse, Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anger, self-harm, road-traffic or industrial accidents, physical injuries or health-related issues, bullying and performance issues at work or in sport, lack of confidence/low self-esteem. I also provide counselling to other therapists. As I am also a qualified Business and Executive coach I also provide coaching for work-related issues e.g. performance, change of career/life direction. I also conduct medico-legal work.
Referrals: AXA PPP; AVIVA, WPA, CIGNA and other insurers recognised psychologist. I am not currently taking BUPA clients. Individuals may self-refer. I also take referrals from GPs, psychiatrists and agencies.
