Paulene Samuels BACP, Person Centred Psychotherapist
Practising therapy is simply where my heart is. I care about people deeply and I endeavour to develop a warm, genuine, collaborative and strong relationship with each person. The therapeutic process can either be short or long term and can at times be challenging. Therapy, has the power to hold individuals and enable them to do the work they need to move forwards.
Talking with friends and family is invaluable, but sometimes an outsider knows less about the life dynamics. This is when having your own private space to express and explore what you are experiencing is welcomed and helpful. I believe talking openly and free from being judged, has been invaluable for my clients. Thats why I wish to support individuals gain there most potential as their personal psychotherapist.
The responsibility I hold towards my client, I do not take lightly. This motivates me to understand difference regarding intersectionality and diversity. Witnessing the person becoming more and more confidence in themselves, and seeing them flourishing, taking back control for themselves in their life.
My approach is person centred, this is the same model I sought when I was a client. I believe it works, I have the experience and interest in listening to your circumstances. Supporting you to express your thoughts to finding resolution or setting boundaries to safeguard self, in order to improve ones life.
My studies was a natural choices for me: Criminology, Specialist in Mental Health Social Care, Humanistic Psychotherapy.

Client said, "Therapy for me was a safe and confidential place where I was able to speek freely without the fear of being judged. It was a place where I felt listened to, understood, supported, contained and held even during my darkest moments. Moreover, it is a place where I can reflect, identify, challenge and change the ways I think, feel, behave and treat tmyself and others. With the right attitude therapy can transform peoples lives".
As a therapist I have worked with client within NHS mental health primary care settings where I provided psychological therapy to adults who experienced a wide range of mild to medium level of mental health problems, secondary care settings where I provided psychological therapy to adults who experienced complex, severe and enduring mental health problems, and in in-patient care settings where I worked therapeutically with acute psychiatric in-patients. I have a special interest in working with adults who experience depression, anxiety, phobias, panic attacks, low self-esteem, anger management difficulties, relationship problems, work-related problems, changes and crises that occur throughout their life and bereavement.
I am an experienced therapist who enjoys continuios development and training and being informed about the developments that take place in my field. My motto is “Where there is a problem there is also a solution. Developing a trustworthy and robust relationship with my clients is of utmost importance as this is the foundation for therapy to begin.
