About me

Hello and welcome.  I am Paul Spreadbridge, a fully qualified and accredited counsellor, supervisor and EMDR therapist which is especially helpful in treating life traumas and problems of many kinds.

I have a special interest in trauma, having trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and in counselling for the following problems and many others you may wish to enquire about.

depression or low persistent mood, anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, anger, irritability, childhood issues, unresolved 'baggage' from the past, bereavement, work related stress, bullying or abuse past or present, relationship issues.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am passionate about helping others and gained a great deal of valuable experience and challenges in a varied working life which included a career in the medical services of the Royal Navy,  community work and the emergency services and in the pastoral encounter of ministry.

Qualifications: BA (Hons), PGCE HE, Adv Dip Humanistic Counselling, Adv Dip Psychotherapeutic Counselling, Adv Dip Clinical Supervision. Cert Bereavement Counselling,  ASIST Suicide Intervention Cert. Cert Safeguarding, Current DBS.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

This Not For Profit association of counsellors and psychotherapists aim to support the counselling profession, members and training organisations.

In 2013 the NCS register was accredited by the Professional Standards Authority under the Accredited Voluntary Register Scheme. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Please contact me to discuss fees.  There is a low cost option with 6 spaces available for those in difficult circumstances. There is a concession for members of the armed forces, emergency and front line staff.

The standard fee is £45 and specialist EMDR is £50

Online Counselling

Counselling is not just about face to face appointments. As a fully qualified and approved online counsellor sessions are now offered through Zoom or even by telephone.  This may be easier for you to access and fit in with what is going on in your life. Give give me a call if you have any concerns about online therapy or to talk through things about how it will work.
