Paul Garden BSc (hons), MSc, MBPsS, BACP Integrative Therapist
Given that we are all individual, with unique experiences and stories, our ability to manage distress can vary at different points in our lives. Challenging circumstances impact on our capacity to make sense of our experiences, as well as affecting the meaning we give to ourselves, the world and the people around us. Understanding our own unique inner world allows us to better understand who we are, and to relate better to others in our world, and therefore to accept and better manage the inevitability of life’s ups and downs. I see this capacity for understanding and insight as the bridge between psychological distress and the sense of relief and healing that leads to feelings of contentment.
As well as working therapeutically in NHS primary, secondary and tertiary care clinics for the past seven years, both as a trainee and assistant psychologist, I operate a private practice from the Harley Street district of central London. I have Individual Membership of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP), and am just finishing a British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (awaiting Viva Voce).
Western and Eastern psychology both agree that psychological distress is a natural part of the human experience. They also agree that we possess an innate capacity to overcome struggle, realize our full potential, and flourish as human beings. My professional and personal experience with these ideas has enabled me to develop an approach to therapy that is grounded in this thinking, and that will support you towards your own potential. I combine more than 10 years of the study, practice & research of Western Psychology, with 20 years of immersion in Eastern philosophy & spiritual practice. This integration, offered with genuine warmth & compassion, provides insight, healing and change.
I aim to provide you with an open, non-judgmental and compassionate experience, that will form the basis of a collaborative and creative relationship. Through this I'll become genuinely involved with the issues that you bring to therapy, supporting you to resolve emotional conflicts, insecurities and repetitive patterns, and to develop a better understanding of yourself and the situations that you struggle with.
