Do you want to achieve a happier and healthier relationship with your weight, your eating, and your body? Maybe you have a difficult relationship with food and want to know how to overcome it. If you want freedom from problem eating and weight issues like overeating, obesity, bingeing, bulimia, or shame about your weight, body or eating habits, then get in touch for a free, no-obligation consultation.
I offer a psychological approach to problem eating and weight issues tailored to your individual needs, aimed at restoring your sense of control, your self-worth and well-being, and weight loss too if that's your goal.
I also specialise in helping people with diabetes. Whether you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes or pre-diabetes, I aim to help you deal with the challenges you face each day, so that you feel more in control.
I provide confidential, one-to-one therapy sessions in Bloomsbury, Central London (WC1). My practice is a short walk from Tottenham Court Road, Holborn, Russell Square, and Convent Garden tube stations, and around 10 minutes journey time from Charing Cross, Kings Cross or Euston. I also offer sessions through skype.
I’m an experienced, qualified and registered Counselling Psychologist and Psychotherapist based in Central London, WC1, specialising in working with eating and weight issues. I also work with people with diabetes or pre-diabetes. My professional registrations include: registered Psychotherapist with the BACP, Associate Fellow and Chartered Member of the BPS, and registered Counselling Psychologist with the HCPC.
I started my career as a research psychologist and spent many years interviewing women about their lives. Inspired by these women’s stories of overcoming the challenges that affected their feelings about themselves and their bodies, I decided to train in the psychological therapies. I’ve used this professional and personal experience to create a psychological approach to weight loss that has helped hundreds of people to make peace with food, overcome problem eating issues of all sorts, and lose weight effectively.
What I offer
I’ve spent many years helping clients with concerns around weight, eating, body image, and self-esteem. I’ve also helped clients in dealing with diabetes. If you struggle with any of these issues, then I can help you to manage better, and deal with the feelings that often accompany them, such as hopelessness, guilt, shame, frustration or a sense of failure.
Help with weight and eating issues
People get into an unhealthy relationship with food for many reasons – stressful relationships with partners, family or friends, work stress, loneliness, a difficult childhood, dealing with loss, anxiety or depression. Working psychologically with your issues can bring you lots of benefits, including:
- Overcoming comfort or emotional eating
- Managing the concerns that lead you to overeat
- Releasing you from yo-yo dieting and the weight-loss-weight-gain cycle
- Feeling in control around food
- Freeing you up from calorie counting and restrictive diets
- Having a healthier relationship with eating and your body
- Restoring your self-esteem
- Finding long-term solutions.
When I work with your weight and eating issues, I help you to make sense of your eating patterns and find healthier ways of dealing with food and the issues that lead you to overeat or struggle with food. I tailor my approach to fit you personally, freeing you up from restrictive diets, and from the difficult feelings or situations that drive your eating habits.
Help with diabetes
If you’ve just been diagnosed with diabetes, or you’re fed up with managing the highs and lows, the worry and fears, you may find you benefit from therapy through:
- Gaining confidence in managing your diabetes
- Relieving fears and worries
- ‘Accepting’ the diagnosis
- Managing communication with your healthcare team
- Developing a healthier lifestyle
When dealing with your diabetes, I explore ways that make living with diabetes more manageable, reducing the stress of coping with diabetes, and help you to find individual solutions that fit with your lifestyle.
Whether you have concerns about your weight and eating, or concerns about your diabetes, or both, take the next step and get in touch.
