About me

I am an Accredited Counsellor with over 25 years experience.  I have worked within the NHS, agencies and in private practise. I offer a warm, empathic and comfortable space where you can talk confidentially, helping you make sense of what is happening in your life and supporting you through difficult times.

Our first appointment gives us the opportunity to meet each other, with no cost obligation. We will begin to discuss what brings you to counselling at this time in your life. If you feel you would like to work together, we can start to decide a way forward that is most suitable to your needs.

My counselling approach is Integrative - Humanistic. I use a range of counselling models which enables me to respond to your needs in a most useful and sensitive way. My wide range of counselling and mindfulness experience informs all my work. I have worked with people coping with difficulties around stress, anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, loss, bereavement, low-self esteem, anger, abuse, trauma, dyslexia, amongst other issues. My aim is to provide an opportunity for you to work towards living in a more satisfying and resourceful way.

Training, qualifications & experience

My experience covers a wide range, including working for many years in the NHS in two GP surgeries as their Practice Counsellor. My counselling agency work has been diverse from working with Local Authorities, EPA's (Employment Assistance Programmes), the NHS, Carers and Sure Start. My private practice involves short and longer term work. I have two Mindfulness teaching qualifications : Bangor University and Accredited Breathworks Trainer.

I have run courses in MBCT Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, MBSR Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Breathworks Mindfulness for Stress Reduction and Mindfulness for Chronic Pain.

Yoga has been present throughout my adult life and have taught yoga for over 25 years.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

United Kingdom Register of Counsellors / Psychotherapists (UKRCP) (UKRCP)

The UKRCP is a voluntary register of Counsellors / Psychotherapists held by BACP. A condition of registration is accreditation with either BACP, COSCA, UKAHPP or FDAP.

Registered practitioners are entitled to be known as a UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor / Psychotherapist.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
