About me

I am a integrative counsellor and psychotherapist work with adults children and adolescents.

My training has primarily been in Humanistic and Psychodynamic counselling with my core model being Transactional Analysis, but I also apply theory and skills from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as appropriate. An understanding of current neurobiological and developmental trauma research underpins all of work.

I encourage talking but can employ  a range of creative methods with both children and adults which includes drawing, painting sand-tray therapy, imagery and metaphor to facilitate communication, help explore underlying issues and together move towards an increased understanding. My approach is integrative which means I can flexibly draw on several theoretical orientations to meet the needs of my clients.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained for four years with the Northern Guild in Newcastle - which is a long established provider of accredited counselling and psychotherapy courses.

With a national reputation for excellence, their courses are designed to ensure that graduates have a full professional qualification that will enable them to be listed on the main UK professional registers: The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

I have worked in the Education sector for over 25 years -in both mainstream schools and Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) as a teacher/advisory teacher. I am is fully insured, and registered with the DBS update service.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
