About me

I'm a chartered counselling psychologist with substantial mental health and psychotherapeutic experience. I am also a HCPC registered psychologist and chartered member of the British Psychological Society. I am very passionate about helping individuals improve their psychological and relational health whilst helping them strengthen their sense of who they are, and living the life they desire. Whatever, painful emotions, troublesome habits or recurrent difficulties you may be struggling with, I can help you to better understand what may be causing and maintaining your problems, with a view to breaking the negative cycle that persists.

Psychological therapy offers a reflective space to explore, find ways to manage and resolve difficult thoughts and feelings as well those that might result from difficulties in your environment, interpersonal dynamics with others, and adverse life experiences. The process of seeking therapy can be filled with hope for the possibility of experiencing healthy changes and obtaining an inner sense of calm and greater emotional freedom. However, it can often be a daunting prospect especially if you are unsure of what to expect. Whatever this evokes in you, seeking therapy is a courageous step and I am committed to helping you find clarity and being alongside you during what can be an uncertain but equally liberating process.

Training, qualifications & experience

I completed my doctorate in counselling psychology at the University of Surrey. My doctoral training provided me with extensive training in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches which enable me to work in an integrative manner which can be designed to resonate with whatever psychological, relational or life difficulties you may be experiencing. These approaches include person centred/humanistic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, systemic approaches, CBT and third wave approaches such as compassion focused therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness-based CBT. This means I am adept at working in a tailored manner that is responsive to you, rather than imposing a prescribed way of working.

Coupled with my doctoral training and pre-doctoral clinical experience, I have 9 years’ experience in the field of mental health and in providing counselling and psychotherapy for clients with a wide range of emotional, behavioural and interpersonal difficulties. Moreover, my clinical experience so far has served a diverse and multicultural community of individuals across the life span from children to older adults. I currently work in an NHS community mental health recovery service for adults experiencing complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties, whilst also running a growing private practice. My previous clinical experience includes working in services such as:

  • IAPT Talking therapies
  • Charities supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse and sexual trauma in adulthood
  • Early intervention in psychosis
  • Domestic abuse projects
  • Primary and secondary schools
  • Women’s community centres

This means I bring a wealth of relevant experience to the process of  therapy and I am well equipped to work in a way that is robust, respectful and emotional attuned to you as a person.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

Health and Care Professions Council

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
