About me

Welcome to my profile.

I am an Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with the National Counselling Society (NCS)  and a Registered Member with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Both these organisations are recognised Professional Bodies and my membership offers you assurance that I adhere to a strict code of ethics when working with my clients.

I am a Person Centred Counsellor however my approach is adaptable and I integrate aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy, when supporting my clients. This support may include revisiting past events that are still causing concern, helping you to manage a difficulty that you face in your life right now, and/or assisting you to identify changes that you can make to enhance your life in the future.

Some of the issues that I specialise in are; Bereavement/Grief & Loss, Anger Management, Anxiety, Generalised anxiety disorder, Panic disorder, Phobias, Relationship & Marriage issues, Addiction, Depression, Suicidal thoughts, Self esteem & Low confidence and I am also available to help you with any other worry or concern that is troubling you.

I work with young people (over 16), and adults.

What you can expect when you contact me.

I will offer you a FREE 30/40min appointment, usually within a few days, to give you the opportunity to come along to ask any questions that you may have. This initial appointment is like a two way interview and I will not pressurise you to explore or disclose things that you are not quite ready to talk about.

Does Counselling Work?

Counselling does work and it doesn't necessarily require a long term commitment. At the end of our first session, if we both feel that we can work together, I usually suggest that we have three further sessions with a review at the end of the third. After a review of our work we will discuss your options.

Who comes to Counselling?

Everyone can benefit from counselling and more and more people of all ages and backgrounds are now looking at counselling as an option. Initially it can be quite difficult to open up and share your thoughts and feelings with a stranger, but as the therapeutic relationship gets stronger it does get easier. In fact it can be easier to talk to me because I am a Trained Counsellor and I will be more likely to encourage and respect your opinions and to support you as you make decisions.

Couples Counselling.

Currently I am not in a position to take on any new couples.

I highly recommend my colleague Joanne Welsh and she can be contacted on 07792 813171

Where can we meet?
I offer counselling in "The Amber Room" @ InVOLve House Magherafelt in the heart of Mid Ulster, a safe and comfortable environment in which you can take time to explore the issues which are causing you concern.
