About me

About Dr Choudhury

Dr Choudhury is a Chartered Practitioner Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC). It is a mandatory and statutory requirement for all Practitioner Psychologists in the UK to hold registration with the HCPC; this is to ensure safe and ethical clinical practice and adherence to the highest of clinical excellence. Dr Choudhury endeavours to create a therapeutic environment built on trust, compassion, transparency and an open-reflective understanding of your difficulties. She believes each and every individual is shaped by their unique life experiences, and as such, the narrative shared is an expression of their journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

Dr Choudhury initially completed her BA Joint Honours in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Reading. She was later awarded the title of Doctor of Psychology (DPsych) from City, University of London and has since completed a post-doctoral diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). For over a decade Dr Choudhury has dedicated her professional career working across various primary and secondary NHS Mental Health Services in West Berkshire and London, with a clinical focus on adults experiencing psychological distress and co-existing mental health disorders. Her experience ranges from working with severe and complex mental health presentations with in-patient psychiatric rehabilitation, to common mental health difficulties situated at community psychological therapy services.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Low self esteem

Dr Choudhury provides an initial telephone consultation lasting up to 20 minutes free of charge; this will allow you the opportunity to briefly discuss your circumstances and decide if you would like to book a follow-up face to face psychological consultation. The length of your therapy will be determined according to your clinical needs, your expectations, goals for therapy and any therapeutic decisions will be made collaboratively. In the event that Dr Choudhury is not able to provide your psychological therapy, or you do not wish to pursue treatment, she will happily discuss other therapeutic services and clinicians that might be suitable to meet your needs.

Fee Structure

Initial telephone consultation lasting up to 20 minutes: free of charge

Further information

Psychotherapy Modalities

The rigorous doctoral level training completed by Dr Choudhury has ensured she is able to deliver psychological therapy utilising the core models of psychotherapy including Person Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in an integrative and flexible manner. Dr Choudhury encompasses a holistic approach to clinical practice and is dedicated to working closely with you, to understand the most appropriate psychological approach, or a combination of approaches tailored to support you with emotional concerns.

Clinical Expertise & Interests

Areas of clinical expertise and interests include working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and those affected by long-term physical health conditions. Dr Choudhury does not limit her practice to these areas, and has extensive experience and skills to work competently with a range of difficulties including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Stress (any type of), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Health Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Phobias, Panic Disorder, Low Self-Esteem and Depression. Aside clinical difficulties Dr Choudhury is able to work with individuals that are going through an adjustment period, challenges and struggles in their life; essentially she will attune herself to your needs by focusing on the areas that are important to you, listening with an open mind and supporting you within the therapeutic relationship. Dr Choudhury believes the two most powerful gifts one human being can give to another are empathy and hope. The ability to step into another person’s shoes creates a vast potential for the healing process to occur and for meaningful change to happen through non-judgmental understanding and acceptance. There is no special ingredient to alleviate emotional distress; however the power of hope developed through the therapeutic relationship can empower a person to ‘live’ rather than to ‘exist’. Dr Choudhury considers herself a guest in your private world; should you decide to invite her into your space, you can be assured that she will safeguard your right to discretion and confidentiality, and treat you with the respect and dignity that you deserve.
