Person Centred Psychotherapist

About me

Things can look fine from the outside, but inside you’re unravelling, shifting, or shedding old skin. That’s where I come in.

I’m Nilima – a person-centred therapist based in London, with roots in Birmingham and Bengali heritage.

I work with people trying to make sense of life’s many wonky turns: questioning a faith, feeling stuck in relationships, juggling cultural expectations, or dealing with grief in all its messy, unpredictable forms. Many of my clients are deep thinkers and feelers who’ve always felt a bit “other.” If that’s you, you’re not alone.

Before I trained as a therapist, I worked in journalism and government – environments full of smart, thoughtful people who were often quietly burning out. Becoming a therapist didn’t feel like a dramatic change, more like coming back to what really matters.

Therapy with me is collaborative, grounded, and gently challenging when it needs to be. I offer a space to bring your full self – the messy, unsure, glorious, stubborn, and tired parts. You don’t need fixing. But you might need somewhere to figure things out.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a qualified psychotherapist with an MSc in Contemporary Person-Centred Psychotherapy from the Metanoia Institute. My approach is based on building a real relationship – one grounded in trust, honesty, and care. No jargon, no psychobabble, and no “and how does that make you feel?” unless you actually want that.

I’ve worked across NHS services, low-cost counselling centres, and now in private practice, supporting adults in their 20s to 50s through all sorts of life tangles – anxiety, low mood, grief, identity questions, family dynamics, and things that don’t always fit a neat label.

I also have experience working with people living with psychiatric diagnoses – including schizophrenia and various personality disorders – in a residential setting supporting those moving from hospital back into the community.

I welcome clients from all backgrounds – including LGBTQ+ folks, people from culturally diverse communities, and those exploring neurodivergence (like ADHD or autism). I’m especially interested in working with people who are going through religious shifts or quietly questioning beliefs they were raised with.

I regularly take part in further training to deepen my work. Lately, I’ve been diving into topics like trauma, shame, and the beautiful, complicated mess of being human.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Additional information

To reflect different financial circumstances, my fees are:

£60 (reduced), £80 (standard), or £100 (pay-it-forward).

You’re welcome to choose an amount in between - there’s no judgment attached, and I trust you to choose what works best for you. If you’d like to discuss this further, I’m always open to a conversation.

I also offer Single Session Therapy - a focused, one-off session designed to support you with a specific issue, decision, or emotional block. Sometimes one conversation is enough to bring clarity, ease, or movement. You're welcome to book this as a standalone or to explore whether ongoing therapy feels right.
