I am a professional and experienced psychotherapist and counsellor able to provide a supportive and confidential environment in which we can work through what might be troubling you. We all pass through moments in our lives where we feel depleted or find ourselves struggling to overcome difficulties.
A few reasons why someone may access therapy:
- You may be in or have had challenging or painful life experiences that you want to make sense of or come to terms with.
- It may be you feel overwhelmed, anxious, sad or depressed.
- You may feel stuck in patterns where there is more of the same
- You may be struggling with relationships that are making you unhappy.
- It may be that you are coming to therapy for personal or professional development reasons wanting to experience life more fully.
- Perhaps you are not even sure what it is, but something is missing.
If any of this resonates with you please do get in touch.
A little about how I work:
My practice is primarily based on Gestalt therapy but also informed by other approaches including coaching. This means that I work from a fully holistic and integrated stance taking account of the whole person - body, and mind. I work by exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviour helping you gain clarity around your experience. Together we can work towards empowerment; building more resilience in a range of ways; exploring possibilities; and/or coming to terms with experiences.
Please look at my website to get more information about me and my practice.
What to do next:
I work one to one with adults on an open-ended basis; or for an agreed time period (minimum 6), with the aim of enabling you to enhance your life more fully. To get the most from therapy, sessions are usually scheduled weekly and may be spaced further apart towards ending of longer term work.
During our first session we will explore what has brought you to therapy and it will give you an opportunity to meet me; to see if what I offer could be of use for you. During future sessions things usually become clearer. I offer you a safe space to work at your pace to understand what is troubling you and what you need.
If you would like to enquire further, I would welcome either an email or phone call and I will usually respond same or next working day.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Masters in Gestalt Psychotherapy and a post-graduate diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapeutic Counselling . I trained at the Metanoia Institute, a leading centre for psychotherapy training in the UK.
I am a registered psychotherapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP); and am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Although I now only work in private practice, I worked for several years at a private counselling agency and also volunteered at Community Housing and Therapy. This is a therapeutic community supporting people who live with enduring mental health conditions.
Initially I trained as a Medical Speech and Language Therapist and have worked for many years with adults in various NHS settings and private hospitals. My focus has been on helping clients adjust to the impact of illness on their way of being; mental health conditions and in facing life-limiting conditions.
I am committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
UK Council for Psychotherapy
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
