About me

There’s likely a reason why you have sought professional help and it's probably because there is something in your life that you are struggling with and are unable to control. The problem might be a recent issue or something you have had for quite some time. Either way, it has had an impact on your happiness which is why you are seeking help.

Our problems can often prevent us from enjoying life and leave us unwilling to participate in activities that once brought us happiness. Our problems can be painful, mentally, physically and emotionally; they can lead to excessive worrying and sleepless nights that increase our emotional distress. Your problem may also have been too personal to share, so you have kept it hidden because of feelings of shame and guilt.

Being able to talk to someone who understands each aspect of your experiences is helpful. A counsellor can support you in finding ways to cope with emotional pain and discover how things can get better. The role I have is to support you in finding ways to make life better.

It might be that you have tried various things in the past that haven’t worked out for you, or you just don’t know what to do; I am here to help you work out what is best for you. It is likely that there are reasons that are preventing you from changing things yourself; we can discover what they are and make the change.

Training, qualifications & experience

As a qualified integrative counsellor, I use several different types of therapy in my work e.g. person-centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I have nine years of experience working with people with a variety of problems, including pornography addiction, depression, anxiety, childhood sexual abuse, and bereavement. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, a professional body that sets standards for therapeutic practice.

Bereavement

I am well versed in the feelings, physical sensations and behaviours associated with bereavement. I provide support and guidance to help navigate normal and complicated grief reactions. I can help with the adjustment of living without the deceased.

Anxiety and Depression

I am confident working with those with anxiety and depression and recognise the debilitating nature of these conditions. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is generally regarded as the primary talking therapy to help treat the symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Additional information

There is no fee for our initial meeting as we will use it to talk about what led you to seek counselling. This first discussion will also give you the opportunity to decide if you feel you could work with me and allow me to gauge whether my experience and skills will meet your needs. This contact will last up to 30 minutes whereas all future sessions will normally be 50 minutes.

If your experience is beyond my expertise I will tell you in the introductory session; your welfare is important to me and finding the right counsellor with the right skills is essential.
