Nicola Wootton MBACP (Accred) Humanistic Counsellor
Hello, my name is Nicola and I am a fully qualified, experienced, BACP accredited counsellor. I have a small private practice in Emsworth where I offer both short term (typically between 6-10 sessions) and longer term, open ended therapy to both adults and young people. I trained in humanistic counselling and have since worked as a counsellor for the NHS, for the voluntary sector and within a school.
If you would prefer an alternative to traditional indoor counselling, I also offer 'Walk and Talk' therapy. This makes use of the outdoors to support the therapeutic process. Being outside with nature and the fresh air can open the mind to different perspectives and ways of thinking. Walking can re-energise us when we might feel stuck with something and can encourage a more creative way of thinking about things.
I also offer Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), which involves 16 weeks of structured therapy and is used to treat depression. IPT is a unique therapy in that it focuses on a specific problem, such as conflict or a significant life change, and is designed to bring about a rapid reduction in depressive symptoms. For further information on IPT, please see www.iptuk.net.
Counselling offers you some time and space to reflect on your difficulties and together we can explore what’s been happening in your life. We will try and make sense of the various influences on you and how these have shaped you. This can lead to a better understanding of yourself, your behaviours and the reasons behind your decisions. This awareness can really help you work out how to make things better for yourself and to make decisions that are right for you.
