About me
Welcome
My name is Nicola Priestman I am a qualified experienced integrative psychotherapist and counsellor. I am 43 years old and I live in Lancashire. This page is an introduction to self and the services that offer. I hope that it will answer any questions that you may have. However, please contact me should you have any further questions- I will be happy to answer them for you.
I have over 15 years experience working in the mental health care industry in various roles both in education, health and charitable settings. Prior to being a therapist I was a residential social worker and a community and family support officer. I initially trained as a counsellor and throughout my journey I became aware of my growing interest in psychoanalysis, I recognised their were limitations that I had with my current level of training as a counsellor, so I decided to return to university to do my clinical training to become a psychotherapist; which has enabled me to support more clients.
I understand, entering therapy can be a hard decision to make. Equally, it can be an enriching experience that has the capacity to change not just your life but those around you. Please be rest assured, you are not alone in this, I will be with you every step of the way!
Thank you for visiting my page :)
Registration /Membership/Insurance
I have professional indemnity insurance. I am ICO registered. I have an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate. I am professionally registered as a therapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I am on the Counsellors Directory.
They are both public records of psychotherapists and counsellors who have met the standards for professional registration. The standards cover training, supervision, continuing professional development and a contractual commitment to the (BACP) Ethical Framework. Which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. This means I have met the highest standards required for training as a psychotherapist.
Experience
My experience and success as an integrative psychotherapist comes from many years in practice working in both education, health and charitable settings and within private practice. I have worked with both private clients and for a number of national EAPs (professional assessment and referral and/or short-term counselling services) who contract with organisations and refer employees to me. I work with both long term clients and short term for example, (up to 6 /12 sessions and beyond if required). I have experience of delivering therapy face to face, online video platforms and via telephone.
I have worked for 1 Point Northwest in Bolton, delivering psychotherapy on a 1:1 basis to adults with a wide range of mental health difficulties. I have also worked at Lancaster University providing therapy to students and for N-Compass in high schools across the North West. I have worked for HMP Prison Service as a therapeutic community worker with the substance misuse team facilitating group workshops. I also have experience of working online at Kooth delivering therapy to adults, children and young people. I have worked in residential child care services supporting and delivering therapy to children and young people with social emotional behavioural difficulties, complex trauma, learning disabilities and neurodiverse disorders and developmental trauma. I have also worked for an international health care company Teladoc Health Uk delivering therapy to clients across the globe.
I currently work as a guest lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and at Outcomes First Group as a Wellbeing - Co-ordinator and Psychotherapist, along side running my private practice.
How I Work?
I consider that everyone one of us is unique human being. We all have different styles of relating to different type of/or methods of therapy. Therefore by combining an array of techniques within integrative psychotherapy, it can be tailored around an individual client covering a wide spectrum of needs and concerns offering greater, flexibility adaptability and the promotion of wellness. I am not only concerned with how it works, but why it works. All clients new and all will always be given the upmost respect, be listened to and accepted. I want you to feel valued, understood safe and insecure in a confidential, non-judgemental space from the offset, to promote your personal growth!
How can therapy help?
Psychotherapy can liberate you from the isolation and loneliness of living with what can often seem unbearable. How? - by providing you with an opportunity to explore those feelings with someone, who is completely on the outside looking in, rather than with a friend, family, work colleague or other. It also offers you a safe, non judgemental and confidential space. As a result of therapy, you may find that you can now deal with the things that once seemed impossible and face challenges, take risks and even gain a higher sense of purpose /self awareness. Remember when your body and mind work the way nature intended, your spirit soars and so do you!!.

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
