About me

Hello, I understand how hard it can be to take the first step and seek counselling.

You may have an idea around what you want to talk about, or you might just know you want things to be different, and are unsure how to change this. Counselling can help you work out the direction you want to go, and how to start heading there.

Counselling is...

Offering a warm, accepting approach whilst creating a safe space to talk. Being able to share your distress with another can help lift its burden, and let you take a fresh look at your challenges.

My role as a Humanistic and Integrative therapist is to help you explore the challenges in your life and the associated feelings. This exploration will develop a deeper understanding of yourself, your relationships and personal circumstances.

I work with a wide range of issues, and have a specialist interest and experience in the following areas;

  • Anxiety
  • Addiction
  • Depression
  • Relationship issues
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Anger management
  • Trauma
  • Shame
  • Emotional/sexual abuse
  • Low self-esteem
  • Emotional eating

Who I See...

I work with adult clients both on a short term basis (8-10 sessions) and long term (open ended).

Location...

I work from a counselling room in Belper town centre. I am based within walking distance of the bus and train station.

I welcome you to contact me for further information or to book an assessment.

Mobile 07946103630

During the assessment we will be able to discuss what you require from therapy and what I can offer you.

I believe we all have our own unique experience in life and I am committed to working with your own individual needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor/Psychotherapist with a First class BSc (Hons) obtained at Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy, Nottingham.

I am passionate about safe practice and am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).

I have experience working with adults and groups who present with a range of difficulties such as addictions, mental health diagnosis, depression, anxiety, personality disorders as well as bereavement and loss, life limiting illnesses, domestic abuse, relationship difficulties and breakdowns, work issues, low self esteem and sexual abuse.

Along side my private practice I have previously worked as a therapist within a Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation unit facilitating recovery groups and individual/group therapy.

My own personal experience of both individual and group therapy gives value to my commitment to my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
