Counselling may be something you have experienced before or this could be your first time considering  counselling, I understand you may be apprehensive. There are many reasons people come to counselling it is about going at your pace,  and providing a safe space.

You are the only you and it is for you to explore and discover how to be in tune with your needs and use counselling. Counselling supports your journey with qualified, experienced care and professional talking therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started my caring career before I was 18. I completed my mental health nursing in 1984 and continued to obtain certificates and complete training including diplomas in nursing and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling . I have had basic training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) Coaching and, Personality & Personality Disorder, Practitioner in Mentalization Behaviour Treatment.

I have my own lived experience including as a carer. My approach is integrative meaning that I am always learning and adding new learning to help my clients. I particularly think about personality, trauma, attachment, the adult part of ourselves (Transactional Analysis) and can offer creative options. Sessions can be goal focused usually 6 to 8 or open ended longer term reviewed every few weeks together.
I do not believe that one approach suits every person or that I would be the right counsellor for everyone who comes for assessment with me.

I have worked alongside clients with Depression and Anxiety, Obsessional Compulsive Disorder and a range of formally diagnosed mental health conditions.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

Further information

I am an integrative counsellor, with a humanistic emphasis, believing in the power within the individual as a human being to change

"you had the power all along my dear..."
Glinda the good witch. Wizard of Oz.

My philosophy is that we have unknown inner resources and can build our resilience, we are always capable of change with a better understanding of ourself. This often requires us to be brave, experience sometimes painful physical and emotional responses and to let ourselves be vulnerable in a place we trust and feel safe.

That journey isn't always easy it is one that can change lives.
My core belief is that counselling changes lives by improving psychological well being.

G Gentle approach offering a space for you to work at your pace.
R Respectful of you, without judging or making assumptions.
A Accepting and acknowledging your story.
C Compassionate and caring and having the courage to challenge.
E Empathic, in other words seeing the world from the view you have of it.
