Nicky Worrall PTSTA (P) CTA BACP Accred. MCIPD
There can be occasions in our lives when the people or support networks we would normally turn to are either not appropriate or not available to help with a current difficulty or perhaps to talk about something that happened long ago.
There are many reasons that can lead us to chose counselling or psychotherapy:
Coping with a major life event such as bereavement, divorce or redundancy
Feeling stressed and unable to cope
Facing the transition from one life stage to another
Dealing with unresolved emotional issues
Having a problem we are unable to resolve
Feeling low or stuck for no obvious reason
Wanting to change unhelpful behaviours or patterns in our lives
In these circumstances it can offer an opportunity to address such issues objectively with acceptance, encouragement and support.
I am an experienced psychotherapist and BACP Accredited counsellor and am also endorsed by Barnardo's to work with adoption related issues. I have been established in private practice for over ten years.
My role is to help you to help yourself. I offer professional, confidential, empathic,non-judgemental and objective support to enable you to explore patterns of thinking, feeling or behaviour which challenge or block you in some way. Through this process we will identify options for change and which will best suit you and your situation.
I believe that forming a strong therapeutic relationship is key to supporting you to achieve your goals and with that in mind offer an initial appointment of thirty minutes, free of charge and without further obligation, which provides you with an opportunity to meet me to see if I am someone you would feel comfortable to work with and ask any questions you may have.
I offer both short term solution focused counselling of approximately 6-12 sessions as well as longer term psychotherapeutic work tailored to meet your individual needs.
Short term counselling provides the opportunity to address a particular problem whilst longer term psychotherapy can provide the opportunity to explore repeating patterns of behaviour and their underlying issues which block us in some way from fulfilling our potential or leading a full life.
My work in the NHS has provided me with extensive experience of working with anxiety and depression. I also notice that many of my clients have concerns that relate to some form of loss, be that of a loved one, a relationship, security, trust, confidence or self esteem. We work together to strengthen both their internal and external resources so that they can cope with and address the challenges that they face.
Focused on addressing the issues you are facing in your relationship, be that to enhance it or to address behaviours that have brought it into crisis. By meeting fortnightly we ensure that there is time between sessions to talk things through and try out new strategies we may have discussed.
I have received specialist training in adoption counselling from Barnardo's and work with clients either referred by them or who self refer on a range of adoption issues.
I offer clinical supervision to trainee and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists on an individual or group basis. Please see my supervision profile for further details.
Throughout my working life I have been involved in working with other people and supporting and encouraging them in their personal development. Prior to training as a counsellor and psychotherapist I worked in Human Resources. I began my counselling training to enhance my personnel skills and rapidly discovered a real passion for my client work and decided to focus specifically on developing my capacity to support others through counselling and psychotherapy.
I have gained a wealth of experience through my work for the NHS, several bereavement charities, Barnardo's, Employee Assistance Programmes and some corporate work where bereavements have occurred in the workplace as well as running a busy private practice located a mile from Winchester City centre.
Working in this field there is always something new to learn and I regularly invest in continuing professional development.
