About me

Hi there, I'm Nicky and I offer daytime and evening counselling sessions, face to face at my therapy room in Stamford and online. I work with a wide range of issues including low self confidence, low mood, bereavement, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship issues and more. I offer a free 20 minute introductory call.

Do any of these resonate with you…..

Do you find it harder to cope than you used to?

Do you feel unsupported?

Do you put everyone else's needs ahead of your own?

Do you find your relationship with your children/partner increasingly difficult?

Are you overlooked at work, even though you are working really hard?

Are you feeling indecisive, anxious, moments of feeling really low?

If this resonates, then please get in touch for a free introductory call, by email, phone or booking for a session right here.  You can explain what is happening for you right now, and I can explain how I work in more detail.  A chance to get to know one another. There is no obligation.

Is counselling for you?

Counselling provides a space for you to talk about what you want, with an active listening ear that won't pass judgement, all in confidence.

Counselling is not about giving advice, it is about helping you to understand yourself and whatever might be going on for you at this time.  You are the expert on you, counselling provides you with tools to build up your self-esteem, in turn empowering you to be able to make informed choices and decisions that are right for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP Individual Member, with experience working in a GP practice, a local male prison and a charity supporting disabled children and their parents/carers.

Counselling Qualification: Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

I also have a BSc in Biochemisty, Microbiology and Nutrition from the University of Nottingham and an MBA from the Open University.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

About Me

Before becoming a Counsellor, my background was in Research & Development. I have 28+ years experience of working in large and small corporates.

I also have my own experience of counselling and know how scary it can feel to take the first step to find a counsellor.

In my late 20s, I suffered with depression, and whilst I did take anti-depressants which helped, I never addressed the root causes, as I was too embarrassed to see a counsellor. There was a lot more stigma around mental health then, but I also carried a lot of shame which was a huge barrier for me. I felt better over time and soldiered on with life and career. In my early 40s, I had a stressful role at work, and stress turned to anxiety, turned to near burnout. This time I did seek counselling and it was such a positive experience for me, that I decided I wanted to help other people in the same way it had helped me. I retrained after 25+ years in a corporate career. I draw on my own experiences to help others, but we each are unique and I'm here to listen to you and support you in a tailored way that suits you.
