About me

Thank you for visiting my profile. I am an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist and fully qualified EMDR Therapist. I qualified as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Psychotherapist from the University of South Wales in 2012. I currently work for the NHS as a Psychotherapist within one of their mental health teams, providing counselling to adults of all ages. I have previously worked for the mental health charity MIND, for 11 years where I was the Lead Counsellor and Counselling Manager.  I also worked as a Psychotherapist within a drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre for 5 years, as well as a community support worker for people with drug and alcohol issues for over 4 years.

I have recently fully qualified as a trauma specialist in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), and have helped people to recover from a range of issues including road traffic accidents, phobias as well as other problematic anxiety and trauma related issues.

I have successfully worked with people of a variety of genders including Male, Female and Non-Binary people. I use a range of different therapy techniques, but I always change and adapt these techniques to suit each individual person I work with to help them move on to a happier future and leave their problems behind.

CBT is proven to be effective at treating a wide range of emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. It looks at how our thoughts affect how we feel and how these feelings directly influence behaviour.  Have you ever thought What am I worried about? Why am I stressed? Why can’t I just switch off? Why am I depressed? Are some of these questions on your mind? Why is this happening to me? Why now and why won’t my problems just go away? In our sessions, I will change and adapt the CBT skills and techniques to suit you to help you deal with the problems you are facing at the moment and in the future.

EMDR is effective at dealing with trauma, and the treatment of choice recommended by NICE.  Therapy targets the unprocessed memories that contain the negative emotions, sensations and beliefs and allows normal processing of the memory.  This incorporates new education, skills and perspectives into the memory to enable functioning and future successes.

I have over 10 years’ experience working as a Psychotherapist working with a wide range of issues people are facing including anxiety, addictions, stress (including COVID and work related), suicide thoughts, eating disorders, phobias, loss and grief, low self-esteem and confidence issues, depression, anger, childhood trauma, PTSD, bereavement and OCD amongst others.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

I feel like I’m able to cope much better now since working with Nick. Thank you.”
