We are all experienced counsellors who have worked both privately and in NHS settings. The person centred approach respects the autonomy of the individual and supports the belief that the solution to our distress lies within us, and we have the innate ability to reach our potential. By providing a safe therapeutic environment that is open, accepting and empathic, you may find your way to achieve your goals, wishes and desires in life. The importance of being heard by a fellow human being is immeasurable, and at NAVIGATING LIFE we can provide that non-judgemental safe and confidential space.
SUPPORT FOR EMPLOYERS
We believe that looking after our mental health should also be proactive, and we have developed a range of services for an employer to fully support staff and volunteers in the workplace where distressing and disturbing real life stories are heard on a daily basis. People working with the elderly, the homeless, carers, interpreters, are just a few types of work that spring to mind, and I am sure many others could benefit from this approach. The advantages to an employer include improved staff morale, less sickness absence, reduced staff turnover.
If an employee or volunteer has been exposed either directly or indirectly, to an event that has then potential to cause significant distress NAVIGATING LIFE can offer an immediate Critical Incident response and follow up support for anyone who may be affected.
Testimonial from the manager of Being There " Ann has been providing Clinical Supervision for Being There staff for 3 years. She also facilitates peer to peer supervision. Her work has been invaluable; building resilience in the face of change, offering strategies for managing the challenges staff face at and outside work, and strengthening the team. I would not hesitate to recommend her services for one to one and peer counselling."
HOW COUNSELLING CAN HELP
Counselling offers a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for you to be heard. You will not be told what to do and there will be no expectations of you. The space is for you to explore your concerns and the counsellor's role is to help you find your understanding and your future direction. This isn't always easy, and it's certainly not a "cup of coffee and a hob nob"! I've heard counselling described as like holding up a mirror that can see the truth of what's inside. This can be difficult to face, and your counsellor will be there alongside you to find your truth and understanding.
Couples counselling enables couples to explore the crunch points in their relationship, and it is the counsellor's role to ensure each person has a voice. The counsellor will not take sides but will offer the opportunity for greater understanding of each other, whether this is around an affair, communication, attention, or anything else which is proving a barrier to an intimate and fulfilling relationship.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
You will be offered a free 30 minute consultation at a time and location to suit you. This is to ensure counselling is right for you at this time, to establish what you would like to achieve from counselling, and to ensure you have all the information needed for you to make an informed decision on your way forward.
After that, we will arrange your next 50 min-1 hour counselling appointment. Sessions thereafter may be weekly or fortnightly. We will agree an initial number of sessions and when to review how you feel counselling is working for you.
