We all have times in life when we lose our way. Counselling offers us the space to reflect on where we are and where we want to go. Whether we are struggling with anxiety, depression, issues within relationships, feelings of low self-worth, grief or just the constant juggle of life’s challenges, counselling offers a unique opportunity to work through these issues in a supported environment, without judgement or shame.

Counselling is led by you and is not about the therapist telling you what to do, but rather is about the therapist creating the right environment for you to explore together how you can go about finding the right path forward.

I am passionate about the potential counselling has to enable changes for us all, and my years of experience have only grown this passion further, as I see people gain so much from the process of counselling, time and time again.

In the words of Carl Rogers, founder of humanistic therapy,

"We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed."

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an accredited and registered member of the BACP and have been working with clients since 2011.

I have experience working in private practice, in an agency setting, in a hospice and in GP practices. Along with my advanced diploma in humanistic counselling, I have completed a Certificate in Supervision of Counselling course, as well as a Couples Counselling Certificate course and many continuing professional development workshops. I work with adults, young people and couples.

Humanistic counselling simply means that I work in a way that holds you as being a unique person, worthy of respect and I aim to help you to identify your strengths and gain greater self-awareness. This then helps you to develop and grow your own coping mechanisms. I consider you to be the expert on yourself and the only person who truly knows how you experience life.

As your counsellor, my role is not to tell you what to do, or offer any judgements. I am there to enable you to reach your own conclusions and to guide you in this process. This may happen through deeper exploration, through giving you space and time to express and allow your emotions, or by working with coping mechanisms.

I work in a largely person-centred way. This means that you are in control of the direction and speed of the therapy. There is never any pressure to explore areas that you are uncomfortable with. From the beginning of the therapy, we would define the goals you would like to reach and we would work towards these together.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
