About me

I am a chartered counselling psychologist and have rooms at a local Wimbledon counselling organisation. As a counselling psychologist I am trained to work in different therapeutic modalities such as Person Centered Approach, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. As my training was integrative I combine elements of these approaches in a manner which suits the individual, their presenting concerns and the goals of treatment.

I subscribe to a broadly relational approach which means that I value the therapeutic relationship as the basis through which lasting change and personal growth can occur. Research consistently demonstrates that it is the relationship which accounts for most change during therapy rather than the application of a specific technique.

I understand that for many starting therapy may be difficult and it is possible that you have been considering it for some time. I am therefore happy to offer a free initial consultation by phone to discuss any questions you may have about therapy and how I may be able to help.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a doctorate in counselling psychology (PsychD). I have achieved chartered status by the British Psychological Society in recognition of my having achieved their highest standard of psychological knowledge and expertise. I have completed a graduate diploma in Psychology, a Post Qualifying Award in Mental Health and a BA (Hons). I am registered with the British Psychological Society and am regulated by the Health Care Professions Council. I adhere to the British Psychological Society's code of ethics and conduct.

I have a significant amount of experience working with people with a  range of mental health difficulties in both the NHS and private sector. My experience includes working with individuals and groups. As I did part of my training in South Africa I am experienced working with people from different cultural backgrounds and am knowledgable about issues relating to diversity.

I am committed to maintaining high professional standards and remaining abreast of developments in the psychology and therapeutic fields; this enables me to work effectively with various psychological conditions. In addition I regularly attend training events to continue and enhance my professional development.

I am a Perinatal Psychologist which means I specialise in mental health difficulties which arise in the antenatal and postnatal periods and includes problems surrounding bonding and attachment with baby.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.
